So I’m on the record as being skeptical of all these pickle-flavored products that are coming out of the woodwork.
I’m not necessarily against the idea as a whole — dill pickle chips are so yummy — but the specific, brininess of a good pickle doesn’t really translate to some things. Pickle popcorn seasoning? Sure! Pickle cotton candy? What?
But I’m actually on the fence with this latest find.

Part of me really can’t get beyond the nostalgia that says freezer pops should taste like sugary fruit or sodas.
Pickle freezer pops just sound wrong.
And yet, I’m intrigued by the idea of a salty, vinegary ice treat.

Van Holten is advertising the product as both a fun treat and an athletic supplement.
Which makes sense, since a lot of salt is lost when sweating heavily.
It’s more than just salt content too.

The pops are enhanced with other essential minerals lost during workouts, like calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
Which makes it kind of feel like a frozen, pickle-y Gatorade.
The price isn’t bad, either.

You can get a pack of 48 for less than $20 on Amazon .
Sure, it’s more than a box of no-name basic freezer pops, but there’s more going into these than just water and artificial flavors.
