If there’s one thing we know about shopping, it’s that it can be a therapeutic experience for anyone. Going to spoil ourselves and get things that we’ve been eyeing for a while can be the most zen experience when we’ve been having a rough time.
Sometimes, it’s the closest thing we can get to a vacation. It’s like we’re away from the world and able to treat ourselves to new things — even though we’re just at the mall.
The best thing in life, of course, is solo shopping.
Going shopping with friends and family sounds fun but, in retrospect, it’s also the worst idea ever. We can’t shop around the store the way we want, and we have to wait around for them to finish up. Plus, trying things on is the worst when you have an audience.
The one thing that’s worse than shopping with friends is shopping with your kids.
Whether it’s food shopping or shopping for new clothes, bringing kids can be a huge headache. Having to make sure we know where they are at all times and not touching anything is a pain.
It’s like the moment we look away, they’re off destroying the entire place.
Kids love to touch anything and everything, especially when it’s shiny and new. Or, they run away and, before we know it, the store is paging us on the loudspeaker and we look like bad parents.
While losing your kid in a store is bad, nothing is worse than when your child destroys something in a store.
The embarrassment, the anger, the shame — we’ve all been there. When your kids trash a store’s property or items in a store, we feel like we’ve totally failed as parents. But, mistakes happen.
For example, one Facebook user caught the aftermath of a child running wild in a Sephora store and the result was not pretty.
Facebook user Brittany Nelson was entering a Sephora when she noticed a mom and child hustling out of the store as fast as they could. When she got inside, she saw just why they were running out of there.
The child had destroyed an eyeshadow display at the makeup store.
“Make Up For Ever eyeshadow destroyed at Sephora tonight due to a small child. I’m sure he/she thought they were like finger paints and had no idea how naughty they were being. Tons of destroyed product and pissed Sephora cast members are not a happy place to be,” she wrote .
Online, the photos quickly went viral and generated a lot of discussion on Facebook and Twitter.
Nelson’s post generated over 50,000 comments on Facebook alone. Many people chimed in to voice their opinion on the situation.
People assumed this mom wasn’t keeping a close eye on her little one.
People online understood that moms need a break from their kids to get some “therapeutic” shopping time. But, they also thought that if moms are going to bring their kids shopping, it’s only right that they keep an eye on them in the store so things like this don’t happen.
People on Facebook didn’t hold back about sharing their feelings toward this incident.
“To everyone minimizing this: it doesn’t matter whether the makeup is $3 or $2000, the damn kids destroyed someone else’s property. It is unacceptable! That’s the problem with today’s kids. No discipline or structure. I’m a teacher and I see kids get away with so many things because parents make excuses for them. The kids need to have consequences. PERIOD,” one person commented on the photo of the destroyed makeup.
Other moms said they’d never allow their child to do something like this.
“I have five children. There is not a chance in hell that would have happened by one of my children! They [know] how to behave when in public! That mother should be absolutely [ashamed] of herself,” another mom wrote.
Some people even said the mom was, “careless and self-absorbed.”
Many parents who also have young children said it was their responsibility to ensure that their kids were well-behaved, and not “destroying store property” when they go out.

However, some users pointed out that it wasn’t fair to judge this mom.
“Kind of hard to go shopping without your kids if you’re a single parent. Especially if you have no one to watch them,” one user said. Others added that accidents like this can happen to even the most observant parent.
Others pointed out that, at the end of the day, it was only a makeup display and accidents happen.
Many people online came to Mom’s defense and said that it wasn’t fair to be so critical.
