The Reddit user argues that the current culture of fashion in North America has dwindled over the last few years. In the past, people seemed to care more about how they appeared when leaving the house. The OP argued that now many people dress inappropriately for specific places and things, such as work.
For example, the Reddit user pointed out that workers and employees feel it’s appropriate to show up to work in ripped jeans or sweatshirts, instead of in business formal fashion. They even went as far as to say that some people go out in their pajamas to museums, schools, and more.

They argued that many adults are also dressing too young for their age. They said that those who are ages 25 to 30 need to reevaluate how they dress and whether or not it’s too young for their age.
Formal Clothing Requires More Maintenance
A Reddit user replied to the original post, pointing out that many people do not enjoy dressing in formal wear because it requires a ton of work. Most formal shirts and pants need to be dry-cleaned or even ironed. In addition, casual clothing is less expensive and does not require as much maintenance.
If It’s Not On Social Media, It Doesn’t Matter
Aside from the affordability and comfort of casual clothes, one Reddit user made a pretty bold statement that most individuals today care more about their social media persona than they do their actual persona in real life. If they don’t post it online, they don’t really care as much to dress up in nice attire. However, if there is an opportunity to share a selfie on Instagram or a video on TikTok, this could change their entire perspective.
