Imagine this: you’re on a plane. You’ve gone through the exhausting song and dance of check-in, security, waiting at the gate, boarding, and getting your b**t to your seat.
Your bank account is hurting from the hit the plane ticket did to it. You just want to settle in and attempt to relax, but something is about to happen to take your flight from “fine” to “absolutely horrifying.”
Well, all of that happened to one Redditor
User MariKontan was on Qantas QF59 from Sydney, Australia, to Haneda, Japan, when the alleged incident occurred. They took to Reddit to share the story of their frankly ridiculous flight.
Apparently, the in-flight entertainment system was down
A huge bummer for a nearly 10-hour flight.
“After a one-hour delay, the pilot decided to take off anyway, but the only option left was for the crew to play a movie on every screen – and it was impossible to pause, dim, or turn it off,” they said on the subReddit r/QantasAirways
The movie they chose was not exactly PG.
“Here’s the kicker: the movie they played was extremely inappropriate. It featured graphic n****y and a lot of sexting – the kind where you could literally read the texts on screen without needing headphones. 😬”
It played for a solid hour
“It took almost an hour of this before they switched to a more kid-friendly movie, but it was super uncomfortable for everyone, especially with families and kids onboard,” they said.
Apparently the movie was called Daddio

Do people not look things up anymore?
The very first thing I would do before putting a movie on for a plane full of people is, I don’t know, look up the plot of the movie and check to see if it’s appropriate for people of all ages. And I definitely wouldn’t put on a movie called Daddio. Come on, people!
Commenters thought it was hilarious
Some even theorized that the choice of film was intentional. “I believe this is the flight attendant version of ‘flipping over your desk and dramatically storming out” on your last shift,’” one user said.
Honestly…I kinda buy this theory.
Apparently, Qantas has confirmed the story
News.com.au reports that Qantas allegedly confirmed the movie choice was due to a “technical malfunction” and that individual movie choice was not available.
Then…how did the movie get switched out for another one, I wonder?
This never would have happened back in the old days
See, before everyone had their devices (and before airlines took screens out of seats to save a buck), we all used to watch the same, pre-planned movies or shows for every flight, all edited to suit all audiences.
And sometimes, if you were very lucky, you could watch a movie still in theaters while in the air! Ah, the good ‘ol days.
What movie would you have picked?
If I had to choose a movie for a flight, I’d go with Jumanji (the newer one). It’s fun, mildly kid-friendly, and enjoyable for adults. Or Shrek. That one is an all-time classic.
