There are a lot of life lessons that parents want to instill in their children from a very young age. One of these lessons is about consent over their bodies. Usually, for young children, this means explaining to them whether or not someone can touch them in a given situation.
Sometimes, parents struggle with teaching their children about consent.
Some are unsure from what age is appropriate to begin teaching consent and exactly how to do it. Some do not want to get too graphic with children at a young age, but still want them to know that they have the final say over their bodies.

One mom on TikTok recently shared videos of some examples on how she teaches her children consent.
Alissa, AKA @once.upon.a.mama on TikTok, recently shared videos on “simple” ways she teaches her children about consent.
Instead of making things inappropriate or sexual, she makes them about everyday things.
For example, before touching her children for any reason, she asks them for permission to do so. If they say yes, she proceeds. This applies to situations like when her children are brushing their hair, for example.
Even if it’s to fix something like their clothing, Alissa still asks for consent.
For example, she asks if she can fix her son’s shirt after he tucked it into his underwear. Until he says yes, she doesn’t fix it.
She also asks for affection.
Instead of hugging or kissing her son without permission, she asks if she can give him a hug.
She also gives him options for things.
She gives her son full control of what he does and when he does it, but gives him options so that it works for her schedule.
People on TikTok loved this parenting style.
Many pointed out that because she gave her son a choice, he was much more excited and felt in control of things.
Others say that they also believe affection should be a choice.
Many parents agree that affection, such as hug and kisses, should be a choice of the child. Forcing them can set the wrong thought process and message.
Others shared their own traumatic experiences.
Some said their parents forced them to hug and kiss them and it’s led to trauma. One TikTok user said that her father used to tickle her so much that now she cries when people tickle her.
