A small plane from Bering Air went missing in Alaska earlier this week, and things weren’t looking so good.
The Cessna Caravan suddenly dropped off the radar

It was a Cessna Caravan, flying from Unalakleet to Nome, but at some point, it just went out of sight. Search crews were sent out, and later, they found the wreckage southeast of Nome.
The plane left Unalakleet on Thursday afternoon, February 6, heading for Nome. But around 4 p.m., radio contact just cut off. That’s when people started worrying…
The pilot’s last communication with air traffic control

Someone from Nome’s volunteer fire department said that the pilot had mentioned going into a “holding pattern” before the plane vanished.
That usually means they were waiting for the green light to land, so something on the ground might have caused the delay.
HUGE search efforts were made about 34 miles southeast of Nome. The next day, officials confirmed they had located the plane—and with it, the heartbreaking news no one wanted to hear.
No one made it alive…

The U.S. Coast Guard said they found three people inside the wreckage—all were confirmed to be dead. The other seven were trapped inside the plane so far that the rescuers couldn’t reach them.
Officials concluded the crash was so severe that no one could have survived.
Alaska senator Lisa Murkowski’s emotional statement
Senator Lisa Murkowski expressed her sorrow, saying ‘the news was heartbreaking’. She thanked the search crews for their hard work and shared her condolences with the victims’ families, the Bering Air team, and everyone impacted by the tragedy.
Alaska’s rough landscape and wild weather make flying risky. With so many remote areas, planes are often the only way to get around, which makes crashes like this even more tragic.
64 plane crashes happened since the start of 2025
TikTok creator Joshua Ethan Turrentine Garcia pointed out a concerning pattern…That’s a big jump from 36 last year and only 8 in 2020.
He also mentioned that six crashes happened within just 48 hours!
Garcia also talked about how the media pushes fear-driven stories, saying that the more people focus on tragedies.
This supposedly shapes their perception.
Flying is one of the safest ways to travel, maybe even more than a car
Even though flying is still one of the safest ways to travel, the rise in crashes has definitely got people talking online.
The search is not over…

As officials keep looking into what happened, people in Nome, Unalakleet, and all over Alaska are grieving the lives lost.
Tributes are coming in, not just for the victims but also for the rescue teams who put themselves in danger to search through brutal conditions.
