In the most cringe-worthy and awkward interview of all time, Nick and Vanessa Lachey denied ever giving Nick’s ex-wife, Jessica Simpson, a baby gift, even though (supposedly) Jessica could have sworn that they did.
If you’re a Jessica Simpson fan, you’ve probably already heard about her upcoming memoir, “Open Book”.
By the sounds of it, the book is going to be real af .
Jessica opens up about struggles that she’s never shared with the public before. Everything from addiction to eating disorders.
It sounds like we’re going to get to know her on a whole other level!
So, in a recent interview with “The Today Show”, promoting her book, she mentioned that she and her ex-husband, Nick Lachey, as well as his current wife, Vanessa, are on great terms.
A key thing to remember here is that Jessica mentioned that she received a “beautiful” gift from Nick and Vanessa.
For those of you that don’t know, Jessica and Nick were married for three years in the early 2000s.
The pair initially met in 1998 under professional circumstances, but began dating shortly after that.
Nick proposed to Jessica in early 2002 and were married not long after.
By 2003 Jessica and Nick debuted their own reality show, “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica” which was an absolute hit that lasted for three seasons.
“I believe that Nick and I are going to last forever. And if we don’t, it’ll make a good reality show,” Jessica told Rolling Stone that year .
However, by the final season it was apparent that Nick and Jessica weren’t as compatible as they thought…
“You could feel there was tension between the two of them. They were very different people,” the producer of the show told Complex in 2017.
“He was a blue collar guy — he did a lot of things himself, like he and his brother would build things. He was frugal, and she had excessive taste.”
“In the end, they weren’t suited for each other. The only thing they really had in common was their music,” they added .
In November 2005, Jessica pulled the plug and filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences”.
Fortunately, both she and Nick bounced back quickly.
Nick released his hit single “What’s Left Of Me” and married former MTV VJ, Vanessa Minnillo, and Jessica met her husband, Eric Johnson.
Anyway, following Jessica’s interview about her upcoming memoir on “The Today Show”, Nick and Vanessa stopped by for an interview of their own.
Things got very awkward.
“I interviewed Jessica Simpson for her book, ‘Open Book’,” Hoda Kotb told Nick and Vanessa. “She talked about how she has her life with her husband and her children and she was really, really happy for y’all.”
“She kept saying ‘They sent me something beautiful when we had our children.'”
Hoda then asked Nick if he was aware of some of the heavier things Jessica shared in her book.
“I’ll be honest, I haven’t read the book,” Nick replied. “So, I don’t know what she said or what she revealed. But certainly happy for her and her life, and she’s happy for us.”
“There’s a mutual respect there,” he added.
But when Nick was finished talking, Vanessa circled back to the comment about the “beautiful” gift — completely confused.
“I feel bad, I’m sorry. You said somebody sent her — it wasn’t us,” she said. “But thank you, whoever sent that from us.”
“She got something nice from you guys after — I don’t remember — some moment in her life. She thought it was sweet,” Hoda clarified. “She was kind of saying ‘Thanks’ to you guys.”

“I didn’t!,” she fired back. “I didn’t. I don’t even know her address. But thank you, whoever sent it from us.”
Well, Jessica received a gift, but it certainly wasn’t from Nick and Vanessa!
