A bronze statue representing a famous hug MLK and Coretta gave each other was unveiled on January 13th, 2023. The work of art was called ‘The Embrace’. It was unveiled for the first time in the Freedom Plaza of the Boston Common. A large crowd, including some of King’s family members, was present for the honor.
Details Of The Art Piece

The monument was made by the sculptor Hank Willis Thomas. He shared that ‘The Embrace’ was designed after a 1964 photo of MLK hugging Coretta after he won the Nobel Peace Prize. However, instead of doing a full-body statue, he decided to only show off the hug.

Per TMZ, the sculpture received praise from many people. However, it has raised some questions, especially on Twitter. Some people do not understand why the creator only showed their arms interlocking. A Twitter user ‘Would have been nicer to have it from the arms up. With the heads. MLK’s Legacy Continues Through His Children

Their third child, Dexter Scott King was born in 1961. That same month, the University of Georgia was integrated. Their youngest child, Bernice, was only 15 days old when MLK was jailed in Birmingham. MLK was assassinated on April 4, 1968. However, his wife and children continued his legacy.
