Here’s the thing — I’ve always wanted to have an outdoor pool . I even secretly wished that I lived next to someone who had one so I could try to sneak in while they were away. Shhh! Don’t tell anyone.
So this recent story I heard about made me laugh. A woman got into it with her neighbors for refusing to let their kids use her pool . Oh, my goodness! Let’s find out how this all started.
A couple recently moved into their new house.

It’s a property they never dreamed of owning before. But somehow they got lucky and ended up with an outdoor pool, too. Needless to say, they fell in love with it. I would too, hee-hee.
But something had to put a damper on their short-lived life enjoyment.

The neighbors’ kids started using the pool without the new owners’ permission. The couple keeps finding the kids in their yard, and even after sending them back home, they keep coming back.
Yikes! That’s not right.

I would have been so annoyed with that. And what makes it even worse, the kids’ parents are totally nonchalant about it. Apparently, they were used to it when the house’s previous owners lived there. Um, okay!
What does it have to do with the new owners, eh?

So this woman posted on Reddit asking people if she was an asshole for kicking the kids out of the pool. And let me tell you, people definitely had a lot to say about it, lol.
Here’s the consensus:

It seems most people agree with this woman for putting her foot down. And they also pointed out that she needs to step things up. If the kids were to get hurt on their property, they would be liable regardless of the circumstances.
That’s a good point, right?

Here’s some good advice one Redditor shared, “Post ‘no trespassing’ signs and if they still don’t get the message, pay a lawyer a couple of hundred bucks to write them a ‘stay out’ letter (delivered by Certified mail). That will cover your ass somewhat if, god forbid, an accident happens.”
And here’s another concern somebody pointed out.

“But that’s not the real issue. The real issue is that when they’re at your house, they’re your problems, not the parents’, and don’t have to be listened to or handled. Just call the cops next time you catch them there.”
Honestly, I would hate to do this but this person is right.
It might suck but somebody has to do this.

“You know those parents would sue you into the next century if the kids got so much as a scrape.”
“You need to have your pool totally fenced off with a locking gate. I would also report the kids to the police as trespassing if only to put the parents on notice.”
That’s right.
So what’s your take on this story?

What would you do if this happened to you? Have you ever had somebody trespass to use your pool without your permission? What did you do about it?
I would hate to be that neighbor, but it’s their pool, and they have a right to refuse anybody else’s use of it — period. If talking to the neighbors doesn’t work, they need to do whatever to protect themselves.
