A Los Angeles nanny , Caroline Maurer, risked her life to save her two-year-old ward. Her employer, Courtney Davis, likened Maurer to Mary Poppins because she changed their lives and eased them into parenthood.
Davis and her husband were first-time parents, so raising their son, Fox, was challenging. However, Maurer made it easy for them.
Saving Fox From An Accident
During their daily walk five years ago, Maurer noticed a disaster waiting to happen and jumped in front of the speeding car while pushing Fox out of the way.
The car crushed her hand and threw her further from the road, but Fox was safe, which mattered to Maurer.
The Driver Ran A Red Light
According to her account, the car ran a red light and didn’t listen when she yelled for it to stop. At the time, Fox was still under two years, so he moved around in a stroller. Caroline pushed the stroller to safety but took a huge hit.
She Lost Mobility In Her Hands
Maurer pled for help after the accident in their Atwater Neighborhood in L.A. She lost mobility in her hands so her employers made a video asking for help. They already exhausted their insurance on healthcare and Maurer couldn’t raise more since she couldn’t work.
Maurer Paused Her Education
The nanny hoped to get 80 percent mobility back in her hands after the multiple fractures. When she made the video in October 2017, Maurer couldn’t hold a pen properly and not grip anything for long. She also suffered dizzy spells which forced her to halt her education.
Her Former Wards Advocated For Funds On Her Behalf
Maurer said she started caring for children at age seven so it became second nature to her. Other children she’s cared for before Fox made videos saying how much they loved her and begged for people to contribute and help their favorite Nanny.
They Used YouCaring
They raised funds via YouCaring, a fundraising site, and received more than $50,000 which helped Caroline get the necessary healthcare to restore mobility to her hands. It also proved that she did the right thing when she pushed Fox out of harm’s way.
They Received A Lot Of Donations
YouCaring changed things for Maurer and the Davis family as the support from the fundraising organization showed her how to be happy again. Several users shared encouraging words for Maurer via the website and checked in on her consistently.
The Family Shared The Story On YouTube
Davis opened a YouTube page and shared the full story while addressing Maurer as family forever. YouCaring is now part of GoFundMe which has become the biggest online fundraiser worldwide.
They’ve Gone Off The Radar
The family and Maurer went off the radar after the fundraiser as they never did it for the fame. We hope all the parties involved are doing well today.
