A lot of times in life, we hear parents complaining about how much time their children spend online and on their phones. Under regular circumstances, parents are usually saying that so much time online negatively impacts their children. But now, with quarantine happening, some parents are happy that their teens are spending so much time online.
One mom created a Twitter thread to defend why she’s supportive of her son playing video games so often.
She said that during quarantine so far, her son has been playing video games all day, every day with his friends. He’s been playing so much that he made it to a pretty high rank in the video game they had been playing.
She hadn’t realized it was such a big deal, but, she realized they had spent so much time trying to get there.
She also said the the friends all joined together to “sail the digital oceans” in the game. And, sometimes, the friends butted heads, but they came up with a pretty productive way to handle the situation at its core.
The teens decided to meet up on Fortnight to play together.
While the kids aren’t exactly fans of the game, they wanted to just play around and hangout with each other. Since the game is a bit easier, they didn’t have to work too hard and stress out over the game — they could just kick it together and have fun.
They ended up even taking a younger Fortnight player under their wings.
Her son and his friends took a younger player “into their crew” and showed him all of the things that they knew about the video game. They even played alongside him and helped him out with the game.
As it turns out, the player that joined them was much, much younger — only 10-years-old.
And, Tiffany’s son and his friends found out the next day was his 11th birthday. Being 11-years-old and stuck inside the house through quarantine is definitely not something anyone wants to do— especially on their birthday.
The group of friends decided they had to plan something for their new friend.
They decided to throw him a birthday party via video game. They took him on a bunch of different adventures in the game and gave him all the prizes and “loot” they could. They also sang “Happy Birthday” to him right at midnight. How sweet!
Tiffany said it brought tears to her eyes.
When her son told her about what they had done, she couldn’t help but cry. Many may not understand why, but obviously this mom was a proud lady of her son for being so kind and thoughtful to this 11-year-old.
Clearly, her son made someone’s day.
Being 11-years-old and quarantined at home with your parents by yourself is definitely hard, and missing your birthday is even harder. But, having these gamer teens, who he probably looks up to, throw him a birthday party? It’s a dream come true.
Therefore, Tiffany said she was “pro-video games.”

Some parents may argue that having kids spend all day playing games is not beneficial to them. But, this mom is in full support of them — especially after her son and his friends showcased how much empathy and kindness they have.
People online were truly touched by this story.

Twitter users were responding saying that the story made them cry. Others said it made them want their own kids to play video games with friends, and many said they couldn’t believe how touching and pure this was.
Just when you think your kids are wasting time, you never know what they’re doing to change someone else’s world.

While many think that video games are counterproductive to kids, it just goes to show all parents that friendships can develop and grow with the use of video games as their support. What a wonderful way to spend quarantine!
