As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread across the world, many are looking for ways to protect themselves while trying to maintain some sense of normalcy. While there are those who choose to stay home entirely, many still need to leave their homes to shop for essentials and goods.
Information about the coronavirus pandemic is rapidly changing and Diply is committed to providing the most recent data as it becomes available. Some of the information in this story may have changed since publication, and we encourage readers to use online resources from CDC and WHO to stay up to date on the latest information surrounding COVID-19.
Wearing protective gear when leaving home is necessary to avoid contracting or spreading the virus.

Many countries have also made wearing masks mandatory when outside and in places where you will be around others. In New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo has made is mandatory for civilians to wear masks or protective face wear in public.
Many parents try their best to keep their kids happy and safe, but they still have to leave the house for essentials.

From grocery shopping to picking up household items, some parents have to leave home to grab what they need.
One mom has made waves online for her choice of protective gear while leaving the house.

Kelly Hogan Painter left the house to go to the grocery store for her son. Her two-year-old has autism and has “bad sensory issues with food,” she told HuffPost.
Her son “only eats chicken nuggets” most of the time, so Kelly had to run to the store to restock.

As she was leaving her home, she remembered that the CDC had recommended that everyone should be wearing masks in public.
Her husband, of course, wanted her to be safe.

But, they had very limited resources at home and did not have any masks to use. So, they had to use the next best thing.
Kelly said she had to choose between a Buzz Lightyear helmet or a Chewbacca mask.

Obviously, the Buzz Lightyear helmet was much more practical than the Chewy mask.
Feeling silly, but knowing she was doing what was best for her son, Kelly stopped to take a video in the parking lot.

The video quickly went viral on Facebook as people everywhere loved how honest and funny it was.
The upside? It’s funny! The downside? It’s steamy.

The mom said that it did get pretty foggy in there, but she wipes her “mask” down every time she uses it.
At the end of the day, we’re all out here trying to do what’s best for our families.
While Buzz Lightyear masks are not the first choice by the CDC, it’s something to keep Kelly protected while she gets her son’s chicken nuggets.
