Women know that there are several different types of underwear that we can wear. From boy shorts to bikinis to thongs to full coverage, there’s something out there for everyone. Most girls start their life wearing regular, full-coverage underwear but eventually reach an age where they want to move on to thongs.
Girls usually decide to move on to thongs when they want to avoid “panty lines.”
Oftentimes, young girls decide to wear thongs when they decide that the panty lines you can see through tight pants are annoying. Thongs help them avoid that problem altogether.

While most women wear thongs on a regular basis, sometimes there are some “sexual connotations” to wearing them.
Many people in older generations see thongs as something that is “sexy” and revealing. However, other women simply see them as a way of avoiding annoying panty lines that show up under tight clothes.
Recently, one mom posted the experience she had with buying her daughter her first thong.
Some moms are the ones who introduce thongs to their daughters once they reach a certain age. One mother posted about her experience on the popular subreddit, “Am I The Asshole?”.
She asked the community if she was in the wrong for buying her 12-year-old daughter a thong after her mother-in-law (MIL) was up in arms over the purchase.
“My daughter recently mentioned to me that she didn’t like that her panty line showed through her leggings, and that a boy at school mentioned that he could see it. It made her uncomfortable so she asked if there was a way to hide the panty line. I did mention that we go shopping for tops that go over the bum or I could buy her a few pair of thongs,” the mom wrote in her post.
She pointed out that at that age, her mom also bought her thongs.
“Mind you, my mom bought me thongs at that age, so I never saw it to be an issue. I also talked with husband to make sure he was fine with it, and then went to Walmart and bought her a pack of basic cotton thongs; no designs, lace, or anything that may seem too mature for her age,” she stated.
However, her mother-in-law disagreed with the purchase and called it “immoral.”
“When I explained to her that I actually bought them because she was uncomfortable after a boy mentioned he could see her panty outline through her leggings, my MIL became upset with me. She went on how a child should not be wearing thongs or sexy underwear, it’s immoral, and that I am only setting her up to become an issue,” she added.
The mom tried to explain to her mother-in-law that wearing a thong doesn’t mean you’re promiscuous.
“I wasn’t sure what she meant by issue so I asked her to explain and she said she didn’t want her granddaughter to become promiscuous, drop out of school, and become a teen mom,” the mom wrote.
The mom tried to explain how she wore thongs at that age but her mother-in-law still disagreed.
“She still does not agree with it, and now says I’m encouraging promiscuous behavior in her granddaughter,” she said.
After asking the internet if she’s wrong for buying her daughter thongs, the majority of people said she’s absolutely not wrong at all.
“Thongs aren’t sexy unless she’s deliberately choosing sexy ones and actually showing them off to people. Otherwise, it’s just practical underwear,” one person said.
One person even said, “I was promiscuous and had the virginal looking underpants with the little pink bow so…”
One person put it perfectly.
“Your MIL is the one fixated on your daughter’s underwear — that sounds like her problem, not yours or your daughter’s,” they said.
