Is it just me, or has there been a lot of debate on how often one should shower lately? Of course, having a good personal hygiene routine is important, but do we really need to wash ourselves on a daily basis?
After one woman’s conversation with her friends, which she talked about online, the debate is back on.
The woman uploads her story for the world to see.
A woman, going by the username grosstonotshower, posted her inquiry to mumsnet , asking the internet if the fact that she only showers around three times a week makes her the weird one.
Everything starts out innocent enough.
“Ok so I’m having a few drinks with friends last night. We are all female a mix of parents and non parents. One friend mentions she is struggling to find time for o [ sic ] shower every day since she had her baby. I said ‘well I don’t shower every day without a young baby,'” she wrote.
But that’s when she starts getting a bit self-conscious.
She says, “All of my friends looked at me in horror. Apparently even the ones with kids shower daily.”
I think taking a shower every day is a pretty common thing.
“Full disclosure I have two dd one under five and I work part time.”
“I shower on work days plus one extra day so usually three times a week my days off usually consist of playing at home, walking dog, school run and maybe park. I would shower extra if exercising/having sex/on period etc.”

Sounds like she otherwise lives a pretty normal life.
“I bath my [darling children] three times a week.”
“My [other half] works out every week day so he does shower more than me.”
After sharing this story, the woman then asks if she’s being disgusting.
And of course, people have things to say about this.
User WaystarRoycoCEO comments, “Personally I think 3 times a week is pretty grim, sorry. I am a shower everyday person. I can’t get going in the morning without one to be honest.”
Not everything is negative, though.
“There is nothing wrong with showering 3 times a week if you don’t need a shower on the in between days,” writes user ShowOfHands.
In reality, we should all be careful of how often we shower.
“Showering too often can actually be more harmful than beneficial. Normal skin maintains a healthy layer of oil and a balance of ‘good’ bacteria and other microorganisms. Washing and scrubbing remove these, especially if the water is hot,” BoredPanda writes .
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t shower at all, of course.
“Being too conservative and spreading your showers too wide apart, however, can also be harmful to your body.”
At the end of the day, different people will shower at different rates. As long as you aren’t constantly smelly, who cares how often you shower?
