Many times in life, parents don’t truly believe their kids when they tell them things. Maybe it stems from a young age when kids frequently try to get out of doing things they don’t want to do by telling a white lie.
Whatever the case may be, moms and dads don’t necessarily believe everything their children say when they don’t want to do something, especially when it comes to food.
When our kids have to try something new, we can always tell when they’re being dramatic.
Whenever they say they don’t like something, we always think they are exaggerating. When they say something tastes awful, we tell them to just suck it up and keep on eating.
While we’re always quick to think our kids are “full of it,” however, we forget to stop and think that maybe they’re telling the truth.
When our kids say that something tastes bad, maybe it actually does taste really bad. Most parents have a healthy amount of skepticism when it comes to their kids and new foods, but it also never hurts to listen to your kids’ concerns.
One mom recently learned this lesson when her kids were telling her they didn’t like a particular snack she was giving them.
Mom Emily Massingill shared her story on Facebook of a hilarious mix-up that involved some Halloween-themed candy and her two kids. Now, when you think about it, what kid wouldn’t want some candy, right?
Emily had purchased some Skittles for her kids to enjoy.
And who doesn’t love Skittles? It turns out, however, that the Skittles she purchased weren’t just regular Skittles. In fact, these Skittles were a particular type with a weird surprise inside.
Known as “Zombie Skittles,” they have a bit of a weird surprise inside.
The Zombie Skittles apparently have some nasty flavors inside of the bag. They’re almost like the Harry Potter -themed jelly beans.
Zombie Skittles are a special edition Skittles flavor that is usually released around Halloween.
These Skittles come in a gray package (instead of the usual red one) and contain the regular fruit flavors, plus one “zombie” Skittle. The hidden zombie Skittle tastes like “rotten zombie,” according to Mars Wrigley, the company that makes Skittles.
The real kicker? You don’t know which one is the zombie flavor until you bite into it.
Reviewers online have confirmed that these zombie Skittles taste as horrible as they sound.
“Great if you never want to eat skittles again,” said one Amazon review.
That being said, some do enjoy playing this candy version of roulette:
“These were definitely horrible! Just like they are [supposed] to be…” said another review.
Emily’s kids kept telling her the Skittles were absolute trash, but what mom would believe their kids didn’t want candy?!?
“If you’re feeling like a bad mom today, don’t worry — I fed these skittles to my kids for a solid month not realizing there is one skittle in there that taste like rotting flesh or 54 dirty diapers in the garbage,” she revealed in a now-viral Facebook post.
Not knowing how the zombie Skittles worked, Emily dismissed her kids’ complaints and thought they were just being picky.
“They kept telling me they didn’t like the skittles, and I told them to either eat them or they wouldn’t get any more candy ever again if they’re gonna be ungrateful,” she wrote.

As it turns out, her kids were right and Emily was just making them eat Skittles that tasted like dirty diapers.
Realizing her mistake, Emily took to Facebook to share her “mom fail” with the world. Her Facebook post has generated 90,000 shares and 32,000 comments — many of those comments coming from parents who understood Emily’s exact situation.
Everyone online could not stop laughing at how hilarious this situation actually was.
Every parent would feel the same way, right?!? To her defense, Emily said she did eat a few of the Skittles but never encountered a zombie one, so she thought her kids were just making it up.
Another mom also pointed out that, sometimes, kids go through weird phases.
The mom said that she “… didn’t blame [Emily] one bit…” for reacting the way she did, as, sometimes, kids go through phases where they refuse to eat their favorite things they used to love.
It looks like Emily isn’t the first mom to make a zombie Skittle error.
One mom shared her experience with these candies in an Amazon review:
“Well, they’re Skittles so I thought the kids would like them. But there’s a random Zombie flavor in each bag, so my kids only ate one bag each. It’s some nasty flavor, not fruity. They didn’t want to risk it again. Won’t be getting this flavor again. But my kids love regular Skittles. Zombie flavor was a fail,” she said.
Another mom said Emily’s story reminded her of another viral mom fail.
One mom apparently was making her children some mac and cheese for dinner, only to realize that they were penis-shaped noodles. Talk about making a total mistake with your youngsters, right?
This story is an important reminder to watch out for those limited edition candies.
You never know what crazy flavors will be on the market next, so don’t dismiss your kids if they start saying their candy tastes rotten. Thanks to Emily’s post, we now know these things exist.
