Oh, the ’90s, what a glorious age for cinema! The old saying holds true: they just don’t make ’em like they used to.
And I mean that both as a slight and as a compliment! That’s what happens.
Below are 10+ mistakes from ’90s movies that are pretty obvious. Grab a pen and paper and get ready to party like it’s 1999!
1. Is it a pancake or croissant?
During Julia Roberts’ breakfast scene in Pretty Woman , there’s something odd about her choice of breakfast.
Julia begins the scene eating a croissant, yet somehow in the span of only 20 seconds, the pastry somehow changes into a pancake?
2. What’s a white car doing on the battlefield?
You don’t have to be a historian to understand that an automobile has no place on a 13th-century Scottish battlefield.
Yet for some reason, there it is. How this was missed in editing is beyond me?

While we’re on the subject of *Braveheart*, there’s a problem with the kilts.
The problem is that kilts weren’t invented until the 1720s.
So as hilarious as the scene is where William Wallace and his men ‘flash’ the English invaders, it’s technically historically inaccurate.
3. The bullet holes are already in the wall.
This is one of the most iconic scenes in all of Pulp Fiction …too bad that it’s mired with such an obvious goof.
Right before the gunman comes out of the bathroom, you can clearly see the bullet holes already on the wall behind Jules and Vincent.
4. Dennis is clearly talking to a pre-recorded video in *Jurassic Park*.
Dennis Nedry was the slippery Jurassic Park employee who was attempting to smuggle out the dino DNA.
As he talks with his accomplice, you can clearly see the status bar moving at the bottom of the video screen. The conversation had already been recorded!
5. Is there an Art Dept. in Area 51?
I love Independence Day , it’s one of the great films of the 1990s. Watch closely while Jeff Goldblum drunkenly destroys Area 51. There’s a case that’s clearly marked “Art Department”.
I understand Area 51 is classified, so I guess we can’t be sure, but I’m confident that they don’t fund the arts.
6. Strange trees in Michigan.
While the lacrosse team is celebrating after a goal in American Pie , you may have noticed a very peculiar tree in the background.
If we’re supposed to be in Michigan, why on earth is there a palm tree?
7. The river where Jack said he went ice-fishing never existed.
When Jack and Rose first meet in Titanic , he saves her from committing suicide.
He’s able to dissuade her from jumping by retelling how freezing cold the water at Lake Wissota was when he fell in as a child.
The only problem is that Lake Wissota wasn’t dammed until 1917, five years after the Titanic sank.
8. There’s a camera reflecting in the doorknob in *The Matrix*.
Apparently this scene was just impossible to film any other way.
So what production decided to do was to put a leather jacket on the camera in order to try and disguise it.
9. Did Clarice’s eyes change color as she got older in *The Silence Of The Lambs*?
One of Agent Clarice Starling’s most noticeable features is her bright blue eyes.
However, during a flashback scene later on in the film, the girl portraying a young Clarice has a very distinct dark eye color.
10. That’s the wrong logo in *The Shawshank Redemption*.
Before the Warden orders Tommy shot and killed, he offers him a cigarette.
If you take a look at the logo on the front, it’s of Marlboro Miles . This character wasn’t invented until the 1990s.
11. Was The Dude a time traveler?
While The Dude is sitting and waiting at his doctor’s office, Elvis Costello’s ” My Mood Swings ” can be heard playing through his headphones.
That song was recorded in 1997, six full years after the film is supposed to take place.
12. Dr. Gonzo’s salute to Richard Nixon in *Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas*.
At the end of the film, right before Dr. Gonzo vanishes and gets on the plane, we see him do a mock salute of Richard Nixon .
The film takes place in 1971 and Nixon didn’t resign or do his classic salute until three years later.
13. That’s the wrong KISS album.
In Dazed and Confused , Carl Burnett wears a t-shirt emblazoned with KISS’s album cover for “Rock and Roll Over”.
The film takes place in May of 1976, but that album wasn’t released until November of the same year.
14. If the phones are supposed to be down, how does Kevin order pizza?
This is a huge mistake in Home Alone that I just can’t get over. If the phones are supposed to be down from the storm, how does Kevin call to have pizza delivered?
Furthermore, how did his parents not keep on calling their son to see if he’d pick up? It’s kind of obvious when you think about it…
