Anybody can have a bad day, but few of us will ever have the kind of day where behavior that contradicts our public image is exposed to the nation via a police report.
Yeah, that’s the kind of day Mississippi State Rep. Douglas McLeod had, and if the allegations are true, it’s hard to say he isn’t deserving of many bad days.
Douglas McLeod, a Republican legislator in Mississippi’s House of Representatives, is facing calls for his resignation after his arrest on charges of domestic violence.

According to the Sun Herald , police responded to a domestic violence call at McLeod’s home the night of Saturday, May 18, and the 58-year-old answered the door with a glass of alcohol in his hand. When the deputies told him why they were at his door, he asked “Are you kidding me?”
The deputies reported that McLeod was so drunk, he had “slurred speech and walked slowly in a zigzag pattern.”

He needed to support himself by grabbing onto a railing. Inside the house, the deputies found blood on the couple’s bed and the floor, and McLeod’s wife had blood all over her face and was shaking with fear. She would only agree to leave the house after assurances from police that they would keep her husband away.
Apparently McLeod became enraged when he wanted to have sex and his wife undressed too slowly, so he punched her in the face.

McLeod’s wife told the deputies that he “just snapped,” and that he often does when he’s been drinking. Another woman who was in the house at the time said that McLeod’s wife ran up to her room, covered in blood, and that she locked the door behind her with both women inside.
McLeod did not give up and go away just because of a locked door, however.

The woman told police that he had started banging on the door and told the woman that if she didn’t open the door, he would “kill her (expletive) dog.”
McLeod was taken into custody, booked on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, and released on a $1,000 bond.
McLeod has more than just legal woes to worry about.

After co-sponsoring the state’s “heartbeat” abortion bill, both McLeod’s Republican colleagues and Democrats are calling for his resignation. House speaker Philip Gunn said “I have attempted to contact Rep. McLeod to request his resignation, if in fact, these allegations are true. These actions are unacceptable for anyone.”
Many others have come forward with similar feelings.

Lucien Smith, Chairman of the Mississippi GOP, also said that “If the allegations against Rep. McLeod are true, he should resign immediately. Violence in any relationship is unacceptable, and I condemn this conduct in the strongest possible terms.”
State Senator David Blount echoed that statement, calling for McLeod’s resignation on Twitter.
McLeod has not made any public comments since his arrest.

However, sheriff Keith Havard has said that the investigation is ongoing.
