Dogs are incredible. Of course, we all know this. We all know that dogs are God’s gift to mankind. I have two dogs and I love them both more than most of the people in my life. That’s the thing about dog owners — we’re weird like that, okay?
So when I heard one missing dog saved a whole family from a house fire, I knew there was a reason dogs have always been my favorite pets!

A family from Big Stone Gap, Virginia, has a sweet lost dog to thank for their safety after escaping a house fire this past week.
A reported by WJHL, Charity Golloway and her two children had been taking care of a dog they assumed to be a stray for the past few months.
The dog, which they affectionately named Butter, was staying in an outdoor shelter with an electric lamp, which was set up by Charity.
Last Thursday, the lamp in Butter’s shelter caught fire. Quickly, the open flames spread to the Golloway’s home.
In response to the growing fire, Butter ran to the Golloway’s windows and started barking to get the family’s attention.
Thankfully, the barks woke the family up and they were able to escape from their house unharmed.
“He knew something wasn’t right and that someone needed to know,” Charity told WJHL.
“He’s a smart dog.”
Because of Butter’s barks, the family was able to stop the fire from causing any major damage to the house.
“If it wasn’t for him, who knows what could’ve happened. It could’ve been way worse, I’m really grateful for that stray dog that wandered up into my yard,” she added.
To add an even sweeter end to the story, Butter was soon reunited with his family.
Rescuers from the Valley Volunteer Firefighter Department that responded to calls about the took a few photos of Butter when they arrived and posted them on social media.
Butter, whose real name is Cooper, was identified by his family who quickly got in touch with the family.
“He’s going to be leaving us, and that makes me want to cry, but I’m happy for him,” Charity told the news outlet. “We will be staying in touch.”
