Most of us wonder what happens after we die. A man who spent days in a coma remembered what it was like while unconscious.
His spiritual experience is rather thought-provoking. Here’s what he had to say about what he saw and felt.
He went into a coma after getting COVID.
Travis Shreeve was an accountant who contracted COVID, which caused his health to decline quickly. While in his house, he struggled to breathe while descending the stairs to a doctor’s appointment.
He told his wife to call for an ambulance and fell into a coma while on the way to the hospital.
While in a coma, he was aware of what was happening.
He was in a coma for about ten days. On a podcast called Prioritize Your Life, Shreeve discussed his experience and what he remembered while in the coma.
He explained that he was very aware of what was happening around him, even seeing the nurses come in and out of the room. At first, he felt like the nurses and doctors didn’t care about him because they didn’t talk to him.
He felt like he was in a coma for much longer.
Although he was only in a coma for less than two weeks, Shreeve said the experience felt more like three months.
He told Wesly Lapioli, the host of the podcast, that “It was the most terrifying time of my life, times 10, I was fighting to breathe.”
As he fought for his life, he felt his consciousness go somewhere else.
In the podcast interview, Shreeve explained that he was in a dark place mentally and his body was becoming more and more exhausted.
But, things shifted when he felt himself go to what he calls “elsewhere.” He said it was a beautiful, white space that was very clean. While there, he forgot about his troubles.
While in this “elsewhere” place, he interacted with two other people.
He went on to explain that he met two other people while in this strange, beautiful place. One of these individuals was a woman he felt he knew but couldn’t identify. She told him that things were all going to be OK. The other individual was someone he couldn’t see but could sense.
The woman said she was helping him.
Shreeve said in the interview, “She had spoken to me almost through downloaded information to say that she somehow intervened on my behalf. I don’t know whether she impressed something upon a doctor’s mind or pleaded with God on my behalf. I don’t know what that was, but I came to understand she did, in fact, intervene on my behalf. I just knew it.”
He then woke up from his coma.
Soon after meeting this mysterious, helpful woman, Shreeve woke up in the hospital. He also remembers seeing his family and feeling peace near the end of his stay elsewhere.
When he woke up, he felt sure that this woman had helped him survive in some way.
What do you think of this man’s experience?
People have varying beliefs about what happens after death. What do you think about this man’s experience while in a coma? Was it just his brain coping with the fact he was dying? Or was it something else happening in a spiritual sense?
