Most of the crime reports we hear about make us sad and angry, but they typically cover issues that we’re all too familiar with.
However, some describe acts so bizarre that it’s hard not to laugh at the audacity of the offenders involved for thinking they ever had a chance of getting away with them. Sometimes we can find that people just got really carried away while trying to prove a point , while others clearly didn’t think their escape plans through.
But every now and then, there comes a time when we simply don’t know what they were trying to accomplish . And while the less-than-successful criminal we’ll soon hear about certainly gets points for ambition, this describes his case very well.
In recent weeks, residents of Akron, Ohio likely noticed that the foot bridge installed at Middlebury Run Park was no longer there.

As Akron police explained in a Facebook post , this was all according to plan as the bridge had to be removed and stashed in a local field to make room for wetland restoration efforts.
However, things started to take a turn for the strange on November 3, when witnesses noticed that someone had cleared the brush around it and removed the deck boards.
But the situation wouldn’t really get weird until about a week later.

In the words of representative from the police department, “On November 11th, the entire structure was gone.”
And if it seems like it would be hard to conceal a 58-foot bridge from authorities, you’d be right because it only took a week after police requested information about the case before an arrest was made.
Acting on several tips, officers raided a property in Medina County belonging to 63-year-old David Bramley.

And as they said in a follow-up post , “During a search of the property, the bridge was found partially disassembled.”
It turned out that the suspect had hired a trucking company to line up a crane service for him, who then hoisted the bridge onto a vehicle he had waiting. He is being charged with felony theft.
Unfortunately, those curious about what exactly the man wanted with the bridge are going to be disappointed. Either the police aren’t telling or he wasn’t because we don’t know.
