If you or someone you love suffer from hair loss, then a movement founded by three makeup artists may change your life.
Drawing on natural-looking brows can not only be difficult, but hard to learn to do. Makeup artists LJ O’Rahilly, Sarah Frances, and Katy Basford started “Browtober” to bring awareness to cancer and other related illnesses, as well as to teach others how to draw on brows from nothing!
Meet LJ.
She’s the chief founder of Browtober , a movement and fundraising initiative dedicated to raising awareness about hair loss, especially as a result of cancer treatment and alopecia.
In 2018, Sarah Frances and Katy Basford joined LJ for the first Browtober.
The three women all pledged to shave their eyebrows off at the beginning of October. After that, they’d all post tutorials showing people how to fill their “brows” in with no hair present!
They said they were privileged to be able to shave theirs off in the first place.
“I feel lucky to have had the CHOICE to remove my brows, lots of people don’t have a choice and even if this month has helped one person, I’m happy with that,” @pixy_makeup .
The tutorials they posted were amazing.
In one instance, LJ used a brow stencil to help her pick a place for her new eyebrows. This is a great option for people who have shakier hands, or just can’t get their brows even!
LJ also freehanded her brows.
This is the most common way to draw in new brows. Using a small brush and a bit of brow gel, draw out what shape of brow you want.
Then, feather in a base.
Using a light color, build in the middle of your brow. This lighter color will give your brow some depth, making it look more realistic. Remember: you can always go darker as you work.
Then, add in darker strokes.
Using an angled brush, take a darker brow gel color and begin brushing strokes upward, slowly fanning them out as you go. It helps to have a picture of an eyebrow up as a guide!
Clean up any stray lines with concealer.
Concealer truly does hide a multitude of sins. Use it to clean up the edges and give the flick of your brow a bit of an edge. You now have eyebrows again!
LJ posted a ton of tutorials on her YouTube.
For Browtober 2018 & 2019, LJ posted tons of tutorials using lots of different techniques on how to create new brows. Check out the whole playlist right here !
