In modern culture, it’s customary that a bride wears white for the majority of the wedding-related things she will do.
For example, brunches, wedding showers, and the actual wedding. Many brides and brides-to-be expect that their friends and family don’t wear white, as a polite gesture.
However, one Reddit user said her friend was “angry” with her after a recent incident between them.
The Reddit user stated that her best friend of 20-years is getting married and she had been asked to be the maid-of-honor.
She said since being asked, she’s been super excited and began planning with her friend, “going above and beyond.”
The bride, Joy, asked the friends to get together for lunch to discuss the wedding.
“Since it was the first time seeing friends in a while and we were going to a nice restaurant, I decided to dress up a little. It was pretty hot over the weekend so I opted to wear an old, white linen dress to our gathering (one I have worn many times),” the Reddit user said.
At the lunch, she noticed Joy giving her looks.
“I thought everything was totally fine, but I noticed Joy giving me strange looks at lunch and only talking in short responses with me. I brushed it off as stress and when we got up to say goodbye, Joy left in a rush,” she continued.
When she got home, she had a bunch of “angry texts” from Joy.
“When I got home, I was had a bunch of angry texts from Joy saying she was disappointed in me and couldn’t believe I would try to “dull her shine during this special time”. I was confused asked her to elaborate. Apparently she was furious that I had dared to wear white while she was the bride to be,” she wrote.

The Reddit user said she “apologized,” but also said she was confused how wearing white to a lunch “dulled her shine.”
“She flipped out and called me all sorts of names, and said she has no idea how she could have picked such an unsupportive and attention-grabbing MOH,” she continued.
The two went back and forth for a while.
Now, the Reddit user shared she is just “sad” because she really has gone “above and beyond” for her friend as her MOH so far.
She asked the Reddit community if she was “wrong” for the way she feels.
At first, some came in anticipating a “yeah, you’re wrong,” but, changed their ways after reading the full post.
“Okay I read the title and thought you were talking about the wedding and I was like “yes, duh” but a casual non-wedding-related lunch…no. NTA, not even a little. Consider not being her MOH, sounds like a truly hellish experience is headed your way there,” one person said.
One bride even weighed in.
“I’m literally a bride, going to be married in 2 weeks. At my own bridal shower a bridesmaid wore an off white summer dress. I gave zero [expletive] she looked pretty. Your friend is being a bridezilla,” someone commented.
And, one Reddit user had the perfect comment.
“To quote Miranda from Sex and the City, “You get ONE day.” Bride doesn’t get to tell you what to wear on other occasions, and she doesn’t get a monopoly on white for non-wedding stuff,” they said.
