The UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s murderer Luigi Mangione, 26, has been a sensation online for his crime, and his looks. Surprisingly, Mangione has a dedicated fanbase that’s been showing him support, whether it be in person or virtually.
The support has been so overwhelming his legal team created a website with FAQs for those invested in the case, which included an expression of gratitude for his supporters.
Many attended his court hearing
Over a hundred people attended Mangione’s court hearing in the Supreme Courthouse in lower Manhattan on February 21. The majority of the attendees were women, according to People, and many rented billboard trucks to show their support for him.
Mangione thanked his supporters
Mangione left a message of gratitude on his website‘s homepage, saying:
“I am overwhelmed by – and grateful for – everyone who has written me to share their stories and express their support. Powerfully, this support has transcended political, racial, and even class divisions, as mail has flooded MDC from across the country, and around the globe.”
He dedicates his time to his supporters
“While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters, please know that I read every one that I receive. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to write. I look forward to hearing more in the future,” his thank you message continued.
Mangione has been flooded with photos
His supporters flooded Mangione with photos in support of him, so much so that the FAQs address whether people can send him photos or not, saying:
“Luigi is allowed to receive photos via Shutterfly and FreePrints in accordance with mail procedures while in custody, following the Federal Bureau of Prisons Program Statement No. 5800.16 (Mail Management Manual) and Program Statement No. 5265.11 (Correspondence).”
Law enforcement is watching
“Luigi appreciates the photos that are sent and kindly asks that people send no more than five photos at a time. Please note that every photo that is received is screened and reviewed by law enforcement,” the answer to the FAQ elaborated.
The supporters are taking it to a whole other level
Mangione is being held in the same prison as Sean “Diddy” Combs and supporters are doing everything they can to be Mangione’s backbone.
As of February 20, supporters have raised over $615,000 to fund Mangione’s legal defense. Mangione can face the death penalty as he is charged with murder and terrorism across three jurisdictions.
