In a recent interview on SiriusXM’s “In-Depth With Larry Flick”, Kirsten Dunst gets real about her lack of total award nominations so far in her career.
Believe it or not, she has only been nominated for three major awards ever .
I know what you’re thinking. Her role in “Spider-Man” totally deserved an award.
That upside-down kiss? Cinematic gold, amirite?
Let’s not down-play how epic that was.
If you’ve had the pleasure of keeping up with her career, you’re probably familiar with her biggest roles.
Mary-Jane Watson in Spider-Man , Justine in Melancholia , Claudia in Interview with the Vampire , and Marie Antoinette in, of course, Marie Antoinette .
Those are just the films she is better known for.
Most recently she has had a recurring role in the TV series, On Becoming a God in Central Florida in 2019, and Fargo in 2015.
Despite all of her hard work, and how familiar of a face she is in the industry, she has lacked the professional validation she feels she deserves.
In 1995 she received her first nomination for a Golden Globe, for Best Supporting Actress in Interview With a Vampire .
Her second and third major nominations didn’t come for another two decades, in 2016.
She earned herself an Emmy nomination and a Golden Globe nomination for her role in Fargo .
However, this came as a surprise since she had played such iconic roles in “Marie Antoinette”, “Little Women”, and “Drop Dead Gorgeous” along the way.
Now, three years since her last big nomination, she has opened up about the paucity of her achievements.
“For me, I feel like a lot of things I do people like later,” she began.
“Remeber Marie Antoinette — y’all panned it? And now you all love it,” she said.
“Remember ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’? Panned. And now you all love it,” she said.
“And also, I’ve never been recognized in my industry. I’ve never been nominated for anything .”
“Maybe like, twice for a Golden Globe when I was little and one for ‘Fargo,'” she corrected herself.
Evidently, she hardly considers her three nominations to count for much in her career .
“I always feel like nobody — I don’t know, maybe they just think I’m the girl from ‘Bring It On’.”
Okay, Kirsten. Bring it On was a monumental part of my childhood — don’t pretend that role wasn’t a big deal.
She revealed that she often wonders, “what did I do?”
“I am so chill. Maybe I don’t play the game enough? But then I do, I mean, I do everything I’m supposed to.”
It’s not like I’m rude or like, not doing publicity or anything,” she went on.
“All you have is your work at the end of the day and that’s all people really care about and I’m intelligent enough to know that and have perspective.”

Kirsten admitted that although it’s what ends up on-screen that counts, she appreciates being recognized for her hard work.
“But sometimes you’re like — it’d be nice to be recognized by your peers. You know what I mean?”
Hopefully Kisten starts receiving recognition for a job well done — it’s obviously long overdue.
