As you most likely know by now, Kim Kardashian made quite a splash at the Met Gala Monday night.
And by splash, I mean she looked literally waterproof in her skin-tight, head-to-toe black fabric outfit. However, as it turns out, the garment was the perfect representation of the gala’s theme, American Independence, or so Kim claims in a new post defending her outfit.
If we know anything about Kim Kardashian it’s that she loves fashion.
And where is one place you can always be sure to see Kim (or any celeb really) doing the MOST when it comes to fashion?
THE MET GALA!
2018 proved to be one of my favorite years for Kim, who stunned in this skin-tight gold gown.
She truly took the “Heavenly Bodies” theme to heart with the crosses on her glitzed-out gown — totally gorgeous!
Over the years, Kim has served some iconic Met Gala looks.
Her first appearance was back in 2013 with then-partner Kanye West while she was pregnant with their first child, daughter North.
However, my personal favorite was Kim’s 2019 Thierry Mugler custom corset gown that was VERY tight and VERY stunning.
However, I think we all know the most iconic Met Gala look will be what Kim rolled up in on Monday night.
Kim’s 2021 Met Gala look was something I thought I’d only have a fever dream about because she looked like my sleep paralysis demon…
Working with Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia, Kim created this all-black, faceless piece which lead me to believe she took the COVID-19 mask protocols very seriously.
Of course, it took the internet 5 seconds to make memes about the outfit that were *absolutely* hysterical.
Now, Kim is defending the outfit and assuring us all it is the pinnacle American Independance.
As per *Entertainment Tonight* Kim took to her social media and said: “What’s more American than a T-shirt head to toe?!”
I’m not going to lie to you all, I didn’t realize it was a T-shirt material, but now that I know the truth about this garment, I may like it even more.
If that wasn’t enough info, a source told *Page Six* that Kim wanted to make a “new subculture and fashion statement.”
The source also reported that her ex-husband Kanye West was part of the inspiration, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise to me.
“There’s no logo, no face, but everyone knows it’s her,” the source added.
“Kanye gave her the courage to push creativity and people’s imagination through art. It’s the ultimate confidence.”
A different source elaborated on Kanye’s presence in Kim’s look to *People* magazine.
“Even though Kanye is not attending tonight, his presence will be felt on the carpet,” a source told the publication. “It was Kanye who introduced Kim to Demna and was instrumental in the newly formed relationship between her and Balenciaga.”
I’d love to have this outfit to wear when I drop my kids off at school every morning — nobody needs to see what I look like before 3 coffees.
