America’s sweetheart Kelly Clarkson has filed for divorce from her husband of nearly seven years, Brandon Blackstock.
The news may come as a surprise to fans, who have always seen the loving and easy-going couple as happy. Together with their children, the couple have announced their decision to amicably separate.
Kelly and Brandon have been together since 2012 and tied the knot a year later.
Brandon is the son of Kelly’s former manager, Narvel Blackstock, and the former stepson of Reba McEntire.
The pair have two children together.
Five-year-old daughter, River and four-year-old son, Remington.
*ET* has confirmed the news that Kelly filed for divorce on June 4th.
They also confirmed that Kelly had cited irreconcilable differences in her divorce filing.
According to the documents, the separation date is listed as “TBD.”
And Kelly has reportedly asked for joint legal and physical custody of River and Remington.
*ET* also confirms that Kelly asked the court to terminate the ability to award spousal support to Brandon.
“She is asking the court enforces their premarital agreement, and that both parties cover their own attorney’s fees,” ET reported.

Additionally, Kelly is requesting that her last name be legally changed back to Clarkson, after taking the name Blackstock when she married.
In the past, Kelly hasn’t been afraid to open up about the more private side of her relationship with Brandon.
“This isn’t a downer to anybody I dated before him, but I’m just going to be real: I never felt like, [honestly], sexually attracted to anybody before him,” Kelly said about her husband back in 2017.
“And I’m not downing my exes. You know, everybody’s different. But there was something about him.”
“I honestly thought I was asexual — I’d never been turned on like that in my whole life,” she continued.
“I was like, ‘Oh that’s that feeling… OK! That’s what they were talking about in Waiting to Exhale . I just got it. I just didn’t have a clue.”
Considering that there were no signs of trouble in paradise, Kelly’s fans have been tweeting about how surprised they are at the news of their divorce.
