Being the child of a famous actor would inevidably come with a lot of perks. Sure, your parent is famous, but think about what they could do for you. I can’t sit here and tell you all I’d be a low-profile celebrity child. No, no. I would want everyone to know I had a famous parent especially if that parent was Kate Winslet!
Now, fans are just learning Kate’s eldest child is an actress, and chose not to use her mom’s surname to advance her career!

She was then married to the *Revolutionary Road* director Sam Mendes from 2003 to 2011 — they have a 17-year-old son together.
Kate tied the knot with her current husband Edward Abel Smith in 2012, with whom she also has a son, Bear, 7.
Since Kate does not have social media, her personal life is… well, personal!
It’s so personal, that many people didn’t realize Kate’s 20-year-old daughter, Mia, is making a name for herself in Hollywood in her own right!
Speaking with British TV host Lorraine Kelly Kate revealed her eldest child had decided to join the family business!
“She’s away just now in the Czech Republic about to start work on a little TV series over there,” Kate revealed.
“That’s been a wonderful thing that I think I knew was coming,” she added.
It’s so nice to see that Kate was so supportive of her daughter’s career choice!
“Actually, I think I always suspected. And then sure enough, a couple years ago, she turned around and said, ‘I think I’d like to give it a go.'”
She explained that her daughter’s decision to use a different last name has helped her break into the industry in her own rights.
“What’s been really great for her is she has a different surname, so that initial job out of the gate, she slipped right under the radar.”
“And the people who cast her had absolutely no idea that she was my daughter.”
When asked why her daughter chose to forgo the famous surname, Kate revealed the following:
It was “most important for her self-esteem” for her daughter to get a role without revealing her celebrity parent.
Of course, fans can’t believe they’re just learning the news!
It really seems like no one really knew that this was happening, which makes it all the more better.
I’m sure Mia is proud of herself for getting the job all on her own, instead of using her last name.
Am I surprised Kate has such a standup, strong daughter? Absolutely not!
I have so much respect for her now, and can’t wait to watch her performance in the 2020 horror flick, Shadows .
