Kamala Harris just talked about something that’s been sitting heavy for a while — the kind of fear people have been feeling with Trump back in charge.
After losing the 2024 election, Harris pretty much disappeared from the spotlight, like most folks do after a big loss like that.
Trump came back swinging with big changes
Meanwhile, Trump came back into the White House with a pretty loud message: things were gonna be different from how Biden ran the place.
One of his first big moves? Slapping major tariffs on countries all over the map. That decision caught a lot of allies off guard — they’ve been scrambling ever since.
Harris finally breaks her silence in California
Harris didn’t say much for a long time, but that changed this week. She spoke at the Leading Women Defined Summit out in California on April 3, and yeah — she had things to say.
She calls for courage during uncertain times
During her speech, she got into how important it is to have guts, especially when things feel scary or out of control. She also gave a heads-up — more bumps might be coming under Trump’s leadership.
She said: “When one person, when a few stand with the courage, that is the courage exhibited by the leaders in this room every day.
“To have the courage to say I feel fear, the courage to say what is happening is wrong, the courage to say that there is a way that we must chart to get through this.
“Understanding our power in the democracy that we still have if we hold on to it. Courage is contagious.”
Harris slams Trump’s leadership style
She didn’t hold back on what she thinks of how Trump’s running the country.
She continued: “We are seeing organizations stay quiet, we are seeing those who are capitulating to clearly unconstitutional threats, and these are the things that we are witnessing each day in these last few months in our country.
“It understandably creates a great sense of fear because you know there are many things we knew would happen, many things…
“I’m not here to say I told you so.”
The room broke into laughter after her not-so-subtle jab
Right after she said that, Harris cracked up — and the crowd laughed along with her. The room gave her a round of applause, too.
Jamie Raskin defends the Democrats’ delay
Rep. Jamie Raskin jumped in on the conversation too. He chatted with Jen Psaki over on MSNBC about what Harris said, and also the way people have been calling out Democrats for kinda vanishing since the loss.
He said: “I was telling everybody back when they were complaining about ‘where is the Democratic leadership…it takes a while to fully absorb the shock of these events.”
He warns of an authoritarian takeover
Raskin didn’t sugarcoat it.
“We are talking about a full-blown attempt at an authoritarian takeover of our country and a purge of federal workers and we are being hit on all fronts.”
He says Democrats are ready to fight back
“But now everyone is in a fighting mood.”
He also mentioned there’s a big demonstration coming up in Washington DC. Sounds like it’s going to be a big deal.
