Victoria Fox, the nanny, aged 40, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for murdering a Singaporean couple’s miracle baby at four weeks old and eating food while he was dying. On Tuesday, the nanny has been sentenced in San Diego Superior Court. Phoenix Grove, a newborn under her care in San Diego in 2021, was killed, and Fox received a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
Child’s Parents’ Statement

The parents gave the court their written statement. Ramona McCarthy, a deputy district attorney for San Diego County, read the statement aloud:
‘On behalf of our late son Phoenix, my wife and I want to thank the incredible support we have received from all investigating officers and the prosecutor’s Office. We think of Phoenix every day and this horrific event still affects us as a family deeply. We hope this sentence means no other family or child will experience what we have been through at the hands of Ms. Fox.’
A 4-week-old infant was killed by a cruel nanny who “brutally shake” and “squeezed” him before “putting him on the bed” and having lunch while he struggled to breathe.
Hiring of Nanny
A Singaporean couple who want to remain anonymous hired Victoria Fox, 40, to look after their son, Phoenix, while they witnessed the surrogate delivery of their twins. The pair flew the troubled babysitter to San Diego.
Phoenix was the couple’s miracle kid,’ born after they hired a surrogate in the hopes of giving their older son a sibling.
Deputy District Attorney’s Statement
McCarthy informed that “Phoenix died within a day or so of his injures”
She added, “He suffered an extreme head trauma, extreme subdural hemorrhaging, and a fractured femur, however, what he died from was the result of blunt force trauma.”
She also said,
‘There’s no question that it sends a chilling effect to parents in our community,’
Reasons For Hiring Victoria Fox
Prior to Phoenix being left alone with Fox, according to court documents, they had employed Fox, a “professional nanny,” to take care of Phoenix. Fox was discovered by the boy’s mother via a British childcare services website.
Fox was hired due to a strong CV, excellent references, and many interviews, yet, according to court filings, Fox had faked one of the recommendations.
Delivery Of Child’s Twins Siblings Through Surrogate
In order to wait for the delivery of their twins through a surrogate, the parents rented an Airbnb and took their eldest son, a babysitter, and Phoenix along with them. When the couple decided to recruit a second nanny to help with their twins and two young children, Fox was the obvious choice, according to court filings.
Why Fox Squeezed and Shaked the Baby?
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Victoria Fox informed detectives that Phoenix awoke at around 2.30 am and started crying.
Fox informed Phoenix’s mother via text messages that the kid was not eating much and was experiencing gas issues. Around a half-hour later, he didn’t keep quiet, and Victoria started getting angry.
Fox reportedly admitted to investigators that she had been exhausted when she made the aggressive attempt to hush the baby’s cries, the court heard. Phoenix was once again flung upon the bed after being squeezed more than she had ever squeezed a child and shaking.
Kid’s Parents Returned In A Panic
Fox inquired about the mother’s expected return time at around 2:00 PM. The mother ran home in a panic. According to testimony given to the court, the infant was limp, had blue lips, and was hardly breathing.
Phoenix’s mother dialed 911, and medics sent him to Rady Children’s Hospital for treatment of head damage, hemorrhages, hypothermia, and a shattered right femur.
Removed The Life Support Of Child
Doctors informed Phoenix’s parents that he would not survive his wounds, and on August 21, 2021, they decided to remove his life support.
Phoenix’s death was deemed a homicide by the county medical examiner’s office since it was discovered he died from subdural hemorrhaging and blunt force trauma.
Fox Lied About The Baby’s Condition
Prosecutors claim that Fox said the youngster was dehydrated and that no medical attention was required. After Phoenix passed away, the couple discovered that Fox had lied to them.
Victoria Was Truly Sorry
Fox remained stone-faced as she showed up at court, stating she was ‘truly sorry’ via her public lawyer. While she attempted to elude detection by hiding behind the courtroom’s barrier, the twisted babysitter was dressed in a simple white sweater and had her hair pulled back. Throughout her sentence, she was emotionless.
The judge was informed by Fox’s counsel, Deputy Public Defender Brianne Murphy, that her client wanted to communicate “how terribly sorry she is” but that she did not speak during the sentencing session.
