The right engagement can’t happen without the right engagement ring, the ultimate symbol of love and devotion. So it’s no surprise that when anyone is planning on popping the question, they’ll make a huge deal about the ring.
But it’s hard to imagine anyone else going to quite the same trouble as Japanese Youtuber kiwami japan did for his intended.
Now, kiwami certainly isn’t the first person to make an engagement ring rather than buying one, but he might well be the first to do so using his own fingernail clippings.
That’s right, kiwami made a decidedly unique black stone for his engagement ring from his nail clippings — and he recorded the whole process for his YouTube channel to share with us how he did it.
To make his ring, kiwami needed a whole lot of clippings — an entire year’s worth.
So, you know, just in case you want to make your own ring from your nail clippings, start collecting early!
Then he blended them up and ground them into a fine powder.
After frying the powdered nails in a bit of water, they were pressurized and finally baked into the dark black stone.
The only thing left to do was mount it on a band and put it in a box.
Hey presto, just like that, kiwami had literally put himself into his work. It is the ultimate homemade ring, after all.
So, is that the most romantic thing ever?
Not necessarily, judging by the reactions online.
“I’ve never been so disgusted yet amazed at the same time,” one person wrote.
“If she sees this video, she’s taking the ring off,” wrote another.
