Earlier this summer, fans of the reputed HBO crime series The Sopranos learned that a prequel film was in the works. And that starring as young Tony Soprano would be none other than Michael Gandolfini.
With the teaser trailer now in widespread circulation across the internet, the hype is beginning to build. But perhaps the greatest praise yet has come from James Gandolfini’s widow, Deborah Lin.
Last month, fans of the groundbreaking HBO series *The Sopranos* learned that a prequel film was releasing this fall.

The upcoming release is aptly titled The Many Saints of Newark and looks to be an origin story of sorts of how Tony Soprano rose through the ranks of the DiMeo crime family.
What you might not have known is that young Tony Soprano will be played by Michael Gandolfini.
Michael is of course the surviving son of the late great James Gandolfini aka Tony Soprano.
For those who loved James, seeing Michael on the big screen taking on his father’s most famous role was incredibly cathartic — especially for James’ widow, Deborah Lin.
“It was almost surreal to see Michael in the trailer,” she said to Page Six.
Deborah went on to say how proud she was of her step-son, acknowledging how difficult and emotional it was for Michael to step into his father’s shoes.
She finished the interview by stating that James would be incredibly proud of the work Michael has done.
The upcoming prequel film, set in the 1960s, is due to release in October and will feature younger versions of the beloved iconic characters.
The screenplay will also be co-written by David Chase ; series creator of The Sopranos .
