Choosing a baby’s name can be a naturally tricky decision. Not only do you want to make sure you’re choosing something that will serve your child well for life, but it can also be difficult for parents to agree on a name.
For one unfortunate couple, their seemingly foolproof plan for naming their children recently backfired somewhat.
One couple’s plan of naming one child each seemed to be a good plan, on paper that is.

A soon-to-be father recently took to Reddit’s Am I The Asshole subreddit in order to try and get some relationship advice.
The user started explaining his predicament by writing, “AITA for refusing to let my wife name our daughter Ever Winter Rain?”
“Our agreement was that I got to name the first baby, and she got to name the second baby,” he wrote.

“She didn’t have any strong opinions or preferences with regards to naming our son so I went with what I thought was a strong, somewhat unique name but that could just as easily suit a musician as a lawyer or doctor,” he went on to write.
“I picked the name Calvin Heath, the middle name after my brother who unfortunately passed away and my wife was fine with it.”
Although, when his wife said that she wanted to name their daughter “Ever Winter Rain,” he wasn’t too keen on the idea.

They went on to clarify that, in this instance, the baby’s first name would be “Ever” and then “Winter Rain” would be the baby’s middle name.
The worry for the baby’s father is that choosing the name “Ever” would not be fair on their daughter because, “I don’t think it passes the supreme court justice test — it doesn’t sound professional, it’s confusing because it’s a word and I don’t think it would suit her into adulthood.”
They ultimately were left in a very difficult situation, as they had a pre-arranged agreement.

They concluded their story by writing, “I suggested Winter as the first name with a more normal middle name like Emma so she has options but my wife refused. But our agreement was that she got to pick the name. AITA if I refuse and don’t sign the birth certificate if she wants to name her Ever?”
Most people were on his side, claiming that “Ever Winter Rain” is a name that sounds like a Taylor Swift song.
The small little citizens who reside within the internet were largely on his side, with the top comments in defence of his position being:
“Gonna go with [Not The Asshole] here just because your wife sucks at naming things. I’m assuming the agreement was choosing the name within reason. That name is dignifiedly hot trash.”
“Eve or Evelyn would be a good compromise but OP is right, that name is absolutely terrible.”
“I’ve changed my judgement to NTA for attempting to push back against ‘Ever Winter Rain’ because it indeed sounds like a new Taylor Swift track and no kid should have to bear that name forever.”
Although, some people said that he should respect the agreement.

Surprisingly, quite a lot of individuals simply thought that “Everybody sucks” in this situation:
“I’d disagree and go with E S H. It’s a…unique name, but OP and his wife BOTH agreed that he would name the first, she would name the second. That was their first mistake: both parents should have input on children’s names. I completely see OP’s point, but per his agreement his wife is also justified. Could they possibly compromise.”
There were also those who simply used this thread as a chance to share some of the weirdest names they have ever heard.
A little rundown of some of my personal favorites that were shared include the likes of:
“My daughter went to school with a girl that had the name Purrseffownee. It took me forever to figure wtf it said in the name board.”
“My nephews are Nathin and Jaxson. Their parents are not illiterate, they thought they were being cool and so edgy. It makes me cringe.”
“I knew a kid growing up named ‘Exalance’ it was supposed to be excellence.”
Would you be happy naming your child “Ever Winter Rain”?
I cannot say that it is a name that leaps to mind when I think about potential children’s names, but to each their own…right?
