When you purchase a home, it’s super important that you get all that you pay for. Homeownership is not cheap, it’s actually rather expensive. In today’s day and age, with property values almost triple what they used to be and interest rates skyrocketing , everyone is basically trying to get the best bang for their buck when it comes to buying a home .
When you buy a house, you also are buying the land the house is on.

For some people, this comes with a yard and a nice stretch of land. That land is important because it’s yours—you own it. But, it also impacts resell value should you wish to sell your home down the road.
All homes and plots of land have property lines.

When you purchase the home, you can do whatever you please within your property line. Over the line usually belongs to someone else, like your neighbors. So, you don’t want to extend past your own property line.
However, sometimes, neighbors and homeowners can be greedy.

When it comes to yards and lines, things can get rather blurry if you are not careful. Some individuals will try to take advantage of property lines and go above or further out than they legally should.
One TikTok user recently shared that her neighbor had built a fence that was on the property they had purchased.

The TikTok user showcased that their neighbor’s fence was impending on her property line and that they owned the backyard in which the fence was going into. So, they dealt with it in the best way they knew how to.
The TikTok user hired people to take the neighbor’s fence down.
The TikTok user said that they asked their neighbors to partner with them to take the fence down and they had refused, so they hired someone to take the fence down for them.
However, they were nice enough to have them stack their lumber for them.
They didn’t throw the wood away or even reuse it for themselves. In a kind gesture, they had the construction workers stack their fence wood for them in their yard.
They ended up building a new fence on their property, claiming back the property their neighbors stole.
The new fence that they built allowed them to regain back that lost property their neighbors had tried to impede on. In both videos, it’s clear to see the neighbor’s fence was actually on the TikTok user’s property.
Many people were confused as to why the TikTok user would take a fence down to just put a new one up.

However, many cleared up the issue that the neighbor’s fence was not on the property line, but on her actual property past the property line. In addition, one person shared that in some states, if the fence is left up long enough, the property that the neighbor is impeding on will “become their property.”
Others said that it’s the right thing to do.

Many agreed with the TikTok user and said if you buy a piece of land and a home, you want every inch of what you paid for. You’re not going to go giving away space to neighbors just because.
In follow-up videos, people started to see how much space they did take up.
Looking at the indent in the grass where the fence was placed before, TikTok users began to truly see how much of the yard the neighbors were trying to steal.
In a later video, she showcased how everyone’s land is now perfectly situated.
One can truly see in the video that the neighbor was taking a huge chunk of her backyard by keeping that fence up and hoping to just take advantage of the homeowners. Too bad it didn’t work!
