As many people have undoubtedly learned over the past year, it can become very easy for friction to develop between people when they spend enough time near each other.
And while that’s certainly made some quarantine situations tense, it can also be true even if you’re not living in the same house. After all, how many stories have we heard of big disagreements people have had with their neighbors? In fact, how many of those have we told ourselves?
But even considering how many ways neighbors can get on each others’ nerves, there’s often an understanding that many of them would be willing to help each other when the chips are down.
And one Arizona family definitely felt lucky to live next to the person they do after the tense situation we’re about to see in the full video unfolded.
On the morning of New Year’s Day in Avondale, Arizona, Carolyn Palisch noticed something odd about her neighbor’s house.

As she told 12 News, she initially saw a slight flicker and briefly figured she might be seeing things.
However, it turned out she had a good reason to be suspicious.
The sight stuck with her enough that she checked it out and it turned out to be a very good thing that she did so.

As she said, “I just took off running and when I came around the fire was coming out the side of the entry and also out of the top of the garage.”
Although her neighbors, the Salgado family, were home at the time, they were also asleep.

So as we’ll see in the full video, Palisch rang their doorbell and pounded on the door, screaming at them to wake up.
The scene was captured on the Salgados’ doorbell camera.
As seconds pass with no answer, Palisch slams both of her hands into the door and keeps yelling “Get up!”

As 12 News reported , Palisch’s knocking was the only thing that woke the Salgados up because it wasn’t clear from the inside of the house that any danger was afoot.
So when they finally opened the door, it likely came as quite the surprise to hear Palisch say, “Your house is on fire! Get out! Move!”

But soon enough, they were able to see that for themselves.
As one of the residents, Nicole Salgado said, “Once we came out towards the living room you could see it kind of coming out of the walls and the vents.”
Towards the end of the video, we can see the Salgados and their family leaving the house with Palisch bringing up the rear and offering to let them stay at her house.

As 12 News reported , the roof collapsed only minutes after they got out.
As Salgado said, “She saved our life and we will always be thankful to her.”
But while the Salgados said they’re grateful to be alive, they’re also left picking up the pieces after the fire all but destroyed their house.
As 12 News reported , their situation caught the attention of their community, who have managed to raise over $32,000 for them by the time of this writing.
And as the Avondale Fire Department continues to investigate the cause of the fire, the way the incident unfolded seems to have confirmed how Palisch sees the world.
As she put it, “I believe in certain times things happen for a reason and we’re meant to be in a certain spot.”
