You just can’t win on the internet.
Are you having a baby? Well, the internet has some opinions on that. Don’t want kids? The internet will let you know how they feel about it.
Social media has given everyone in the world a voice — which is a good thing! But it’s also given everyone the idea that their opinions are wanted on every single subject, and, boy, is that getting exhausting.
Here’s the thing: We all have opinions, but not every opinion is wanted.

Let’s choose a random, crazy example: Say you want to have kids, and you post something about it on Twitter, or Instagram.
You’re guaranteed to get about a billion (yes, that’s real math) unsolicited opinions about where to have them, when to have them, and how many. And so many of those opinions will come from total strangers, who have no idea who you are, or how your life works!
These days, people dictate how many kids you can have.
As if it’s anyone’s business how many kids you want! We recently featured the story of Anna Strode, who was brutally shamed for adding a fourth child to her happy family.
“Over the past 7 months I have been criticised [sic], judged, and blatantly questioned why we have chosen to have another baby,” she wrote on Instagram.
It seems like we have to explain ourselves constantly these days, but parents get it especially hard.

Everyone thinks they’re an expert, even if they’ve never had kids before.
And if someone chooses not to have kids, they go through hell on the internet for even mentioning it. It seems people don’t want to hear that someone has chosen not to do something, even if not doing it is the right choice for them.
Basically: Screw everyone, do you.
If you have the means and the want to have kids, please do it. Do what’s right for you.
If you don’t want to have kids, more power to you. I’m proud of you for knowing what you want.
We live in a society that tries desperately to control our every action, especially if we’re women doing something with our bodies that people disagree with. Ignore them. You’ve got this.
