One of Governor Ron DeSantis’ prominent campaign donors, Kent Stermon, died last week in a suspicious suicide. The late philanthropist contributed over $60,000 to DeSantis’ campaign via his company, Total Military Management.
However, that wasn’t the only relationship between the duo, as DeSantis and Stermon go way back. The latter provided shelter for the governor when he left Jacksonville in 2016, and DeSantis “repaid the favor” by appointing Stermon the overseer of the State Universities Board of Governors.
The 50-year-old was under investigation for sexual misconduct when news of his death hit the media.
Stermon Died In An Apparent Suicide

His Wife Reported Him Missing
According to reports , his wife, Christie, reported him missing, and when the police searched, they discovered Stermon dead in a truck outside the Atlantic Beach post office. The police ruled it an apparent suicide, but once Reddit users got the news, they declared it suspicious.
The first question was about Stermon’s unlimited access to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. He reportedly entered the office with high-level security access and was closely involved in politics.
Redditors also emphasized the oddity in Stermon’s access as he wasn’t a law enforcement agent, nor was he an ex-serviceman, and those are the two people permitted to enter the Sheriff’s Office. Even then, there are still areas meant only for the Sherrif.
What Business Was His Company Doing?

He Wasn’t Qualified To Have Unlimited Access To The Sheriff’s Office

His Frequent Police-Station Visits Were Suspicious

No One Knows Why He Gave Up On Life
Redditors highlighted Stermon going into the police station 87 times a year. One user alleged that Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was corrupt. The person said Stermon contributed to several sheriffs in the county and his friendship with the current mayor was suspicious.
The person also highlighted Stermon’s expensive bidding for a private dinner with former congresswoman Corrine Brown, a Democrat. Brown later came under investigation for corruption and became convicted in 2017.
Someone cleared the air about the 87 times entry, saying it meant the number of times he swiped the card, which isn’t necessary to enter the office.
People also wondered what his company was really about, saying they could’ve been involved in political tampering. Now that he’s dead, they also suspect it was a retaliatory murder instead of the apparent suicide.
If anything, the Reddit users believe the charges against him were too many for him to bear hence his decision to take his life.
