We’ve all taken some bad photos in our time. Sometimes you get caught unaware, or you blink in the middle of a shot, or you’re just having a bad hair day — stuff happens! But usually taking an unflattering photo doesn’t make us look like a brand new person, which seems to be what fans think happened to Zooey Deschanel in a new picture she shared to her Instagram.
Zooey Deschanel is a very familiar face.
The actress, best known for playing the adorkable Jess in New Girl and the titular dream girl in 500 Days Of Summer , has pretty consistently rocked a heavy bang and dark hair during her career.
When she switches up her look, she’s almost unrecognizable.
In fact, you may not have realized that the blonde, bangless Jovie in Elf who falls in love with Buddy was actually played by Zooey Deschanel, just because of how different she looks!
Even with dark hair, no bangs tends to leave fans confused.
Who’s that girl, indeed?
It makes sense — we’re so used to seeing her with the blunt bangs that any other look feels really strange. It also seems like Zooey might just have one of those faces that sometimes just seems really different.
In a new Instagram post, even sticking with her usual look has left some fans confused.
Zooey shared this photo with her boyfriend, Property Brother Jonathan Scott, to declare that “We voted!” but politics was not the first thing on many fans’ minds.
“Um… you look like a totally different person in this picture?” one fan commented.
“That does not look like Zooey,” another fan wrote.
“I know everyone is saying this but… who IS that??? [Is] she a paid actress pretending to be zooey deschanel?” one fan asked on Twitter.
Many fans also took the time to reference the theme song Zooey sang on New Girl , asking quite simply, “Who’s that girl?”
“I’m really trying to work out if this is just what Zooey looks like without a ton of eye makeup…” one fan wondered.
“Did we got a new zooey?” one fan asked .
“I’m so confused this doesn’t look like Zooey deschanel at all,” another added , while one fan suggested she looked like a “white Rashida Jones.”
Fans also noticed that Zooey looked different in a picture her boyfriend shared.
“She looks kind of different here, Jonathan,” one fan commented. Another asked, “Why did they edit her so strongly? She looks like a totally different person!”
Maybe these fans are right and both pictures are a result of over-editing.
Fans noted in a recent Halloween picture that Zooey looked more like herself.
“What a relief that Zooey’s back! Don’t know who that other girl was,” one fan joked, while another referenced their Harry Potter costumes by writing, “Maybe she was drinking Polyjuice potion.”
