Here we are folks, standing before one of the final episodes of Game Of Thrones .
We’ve seen… well, I probably shouldn’t say yet. First off, I should totally warn you about…
Spoilers!

Oh yeah, you better believe it, folks. We’re gonna be spoiling a whole bunch of stuff about the newest episode of Game Of Thrones . So buckle up those who have seen it, leave now those who haven’t.
Alright, let’s talk ‘The Bells’

Known as Season 8, Episode 5 to some of the lame people out there. However here on the streets, we call it “the second last episode of the critically acclaimed series: Game Of Thrones “.
Oh yeah, we’re a lot wordier on the streets.
It was a pretty decent episode.

We got to see a whole lot of destruction. I’m talking all of King’s Landing going up in dragon flames.
Which, as we all know, is the worst kind of flame.
Millions died.

Yes, millions of extras and potentially CGI’ed people died in the fire, much to the dismay of Arya, who was at least making an attempt to save some of the civilians.
However, some other people died.

Deaths that are even worse than millions of extras: named people.
Yes, we lost Euron, that scoundrel, we lost Qyburn, that… uh… wacky old maester. Always up to his old tricks.
We got the Cleganebowl

Which was everything of which we dreamed.
Both dying fighting for vengeance, for dominance as the superior brother. It’s a relatable story, really. We’ve all been there.
We lost the Lannister Twins.

Cersei and her dreamboat brother both perished in a way that has some fans awful steamed .
I’m not saying a falling ceiling is an unfitting way to end a main villain, I’m just… oh wait, that’s exactly what I’m saying.
And finally, we lost Varys.

Good old Varys the spider.
Yes, it was his secretive ways and his attempts to protect the realm that did him in.
However, if anyone was gonna go down for “treason”, it would’ve been him.
You see, he goes to Jon Snow…

And tries to convince him that Daenerys is a bad, bad lady and that maybe he, as the other Targaryen, should rule the realm.
Jon, like a good nephew/boyfriend, says he doesn’t want any part of that stuff.
And then, fwoosh, gets killed by fire.

Which, when it comes to ways to go, being killed by dragon flame is probably pretty high up there for worst.
As we’ve established, it’s the worst kind of flame, most likely.
However!
Something was missed this episode!
Apparently… Varys tried to have Dany poisoned!
During one scene, pre-battle, a little girl offers the mother of dragons food and she disagrees. The little girl then goes “she won’t eat”.
Sure, she could’ve been worried about the queen’s health.

I mean, you’ve gotta have a nice pre-battle meal if you want to stay healthy.
However, with Varys’ allegiance to the realm, and his suspicions that she might go all mad queen, he may have set the whole thing up.
That, plus the fact that he literally approaches Jon just moments after the failed attempt almost feels like he was trying his hand at all other options before exposing himself to what he knew would happen. AKA getting killed for treason.
Posion is, after all, a eunuch’s weapon.
At least that’s what was said in this season one interaction between Ned Stark and Grand Maester Pycelle. Funny how Lord Varys, the eunuch, is brought up right after.
Varys also says something pretty sneaky after Dany doesn’t eat.
As you can see from the below tweet, he seems awfully concerned about the fact that his supposed queen won’t eat her dinner.
Again, he could just be looking out for her well being, but I doubt that.
On top of all of this, he and his little misfit helper Martha were also discussing something suspect in that same conversation that points to poison.
Martha complains that Dany’s soldiers are watching her, to which Varys basically says “duh” but follows up with an ominous statement, “The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward.”
Poisoning the queen of the seven kingdoms feels like a pretty big risk if you ask me.
In Varys’ mind, that poisonous treason is a small price to pay to preserve and improve the welfare of the realm, i.e. the reward .
With Jon potentially on the throne, Dany posioned to death, and the realm in better hands, Varys might have thought dying over treason would be worth it.

But I guess we’ll never really know. Or maybe Sunday’s new and final episode will reveal more — fingers crossed that it does.
What do you think?

Do you think there was a secret plot to kill Dany behind the scenes? Or are you one of those Season 8 haters that believe they couldn’t possibly do anything that subtle?
