James Blunt released a new music video, “Monsters”, and people can’t get through the entire video without bursting into tears.
Me. I’m people.
This is going to bum you out, I apologize in advance.
Most of us are no stranger to James Blunt’s emotional, heartbreak ballads.
I mean, I’d be lying if I said my 11-year-old self didn’t used to spend hours in her room crying to “Goodbye My Lover”.
But his latest music video for his brand new song “Monsters” has everybody sobbing.

In the interest of transparency, I can honestly say I made it through about 56 seconds of the video before I felt my eyes start to well up.
James released his latest single as a tribute to his dying father, Colonel Charles Blount, a former cavalry officer.
He is, unfortunately, suffering from Stage four chronic kidney disease.
Last year, on “Good Morning Britain”, James opened up about his father’s illness and tried to reach out to possible organ donors.

“I’ve come on here to ask you what blood group you are,” he said.
“Some things have been going on in my life that I needed to write about.”

“My father has not been very well, actually. He needs a new kidney and a kidney donor.”
“And I’ve come on here to ask you what blood group you are. If you are an O-positive, I’ll take it off you.”

Unfortunately, James himself is not a match.
He also explained the process of writing “Monsters” after learning about his father’s diagnosis.

“Really that has been an amazing moment because when you realize your father’s mortality, it’s a great opportunity to say the things I’d like to say to him,” he said.
The first half of the music video is a close-up of James’, staring into the lens, singing the lyrics with extreme conviction.

It was amazing how such a simple video managed to convey something so profound.
As the camera slowly pans out, James struggles to control his tears, singing: “I’m not your son, you’re not my father We’re just two grown men saying goodbye”.

“So daddy, won’t you just close your eyes? Don’t be afraid, it’s my turn to chase the monsters away”.
The video really seems to be resonating the most with his fans who have experienced the pain of losing a sick parent.

Many of whom have taken to Twitter, singing their praises.
This person complimented how beautifully shot the video was and how close to home the lyrics hit.
They personally thanked James for making such a relatable song.
This fan admitted that they had no idea what to expect from the video, but found out the hard way in a room full of people.
The good news is, now that you’ve read this article, you won’t be making the same mistake as this person!
Other fans were simply amazed that he was able to look into a camera and sing such heavy lyrics with his father sitting right next to him.
If it were me, I would have been scream-crying the entire thing.
I have to say, I’m with this person.
I really did not expect James Blunt to be hitting me this hard in the year 2020. I thought I left his sad songs in 2004.
Anyways, here’s the full video!
Watch it at your own risk — if you feel like crying into your pillow for a while!
Sending our thoughts and prayers to James and his father.
