A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is a holiday classic.
The show has tons of holiday specials, one for Halloween, one for Thanksgiving, and one for Christmas, but there’s just something that people love about the Thanksgiving one.
Well, most people.
There are people who are very unhappy about the special this year, as they’ve noticed a racist moment that makes them uncomfortable.
Charles M. Schulz was the creator of the franchise that has carved its way into our hearts.

It has been reported in the past that he was an advocate for equal rights.
He was a major advocate for women’s sports, promoting them through his comics and highlighting their importance.
When he created the comic strip, he probably had no idea that it would blow up in the way it did.
But the characters and the stories obviously spoke to the public, because the show that followed still plays today!
The show was created quite some time ago.

Based completely off of comic book strips that existed before it.
The show and its characters are all in our hearts, as they are beloved, hilarious, and kind.
Most of the time.
In case you have never actually watched the special, we’re going to break it down for you.
The Thanksgiving meal is an impromptu event, once Peppermint Patty invites herself and some friends to Charlie Brown and Sally’s house.
Because of that, they decide to make two different Thanksgiving dinners.
While for most of the episode everything is fine, it was actually during the dinner itself where people found something wrong with the scene.

It had to do with Franklin, the only person of color on the show, who was sitting on a lawn chair.
Here’s the scene everyone is talking about.

Now if you’re watching the show mindlessly, you might not understand, for a moment, what makes the scene racist.
But a lot of tweets broke it down.
The show, as most of us know, has been on the air since the ’70s, so there are a lot of things that flew then, that definitely wouldn’t fly today.

But people are concerned about the message the show may send to modern viewers.
Everyone is sitting on the other side of the table.
Plus, Franklin is sitting on a lawn chair, whereas everyone else is sitting on actual furniture.
Of course, Twitter pointed it out immediately, taking to social media to show their rage.
This person even called out the ‘poorly-animated’ quality!
Which, to be honest, isn’t quite fair, considering when it was done.
But the point of the tweet is that the show is racist, perhaps even in its entirety, not just the dinner scene.
Someone said that Franklin, if he wanted, could have actually sat next to someone else.
This is true, but, remember, these cartoons don’t actually have active thoughts.
People draw them, and creators do as they want with them. I’m sorry if that’s news to anyone!
Others think that if one is bothered by the show, they shouldn’t be watching it at all.
But it can be said that we can still enjoy film and television while also being critical.
Do you think this done purposely on the show? Or was this accidental and coincidental? Regardless, people are upset.
