When it comes to families, everyone’s dynamic is different. Sometimes, couples like to do things a specific way in order to get things done the way they see fit. Other times, families have different traditions and experiences with their children at home. What seems weird to one person, might be completely normal to another person.
It’s hard to say what is right and wrong when it comes to raising children.
Every parent has their own way of doing things and as long as the child is healthy and unharmed, that’s really all that matters. But, sometimes, family rules and routines can seem pretty “off” to others.

Recently, one person took to Reddit to get some advice on the dynamic she has with her husband at home.
The mom asked the Reddit community if she was “wrong” for having her husband to take care of their son after working long hours following a family member’s criticism.
The mom said that her husband is a very hands-on father when it comes to their son.
“Ever since our son was born my husband started this tradition where he would spend 1 hour when he gets home with just him and our son. We usually share childcare duties evenly when we’re both home, but during this hour he takes care of whatever our son needs,” she wrote.
With the pandemic upon everyone, the woman’s extended family has been staying with them for a bit.
“My husband’s cousin, his wife and two kids have been staying with us since the pandemic started. I can tell that this arrangement has been bothering her because she’s made a few snide comments about it since she’s been here,” she added.
Her husband has also been working overtime and extra hours with the pandemic.
“Yesterday, my husband was working for 12 hours before he finally came out of his office. Our son would usually be asleep at that time, but he was being fussy yesterday. My husband immediately took over when he came out of his office,” she said.
However, the cousin thought that the way the mom was treating her husband was wrong.
“When his cousin’s wife found out she went on a rant about how I was taking advantage of my husband and how I should feel bad for forcing him to look after our son after a long day at work,” she wrote.
She asked if she was “wrong” for having her husband help out with their son.
Many people on Reddit were in agreement that she wasn’t wrong. In fact, the majority said she wasn’t wrong at all.
“Sounds like your son is lucky to have a father who wants to spend quality time with him and doesn’t see that as a chore or burden. It’s not ‘babysitting’ when it’s your own child. It’s called parenting,'” one person said.
Other’s agreed that when it’s your own child, it’s not babysitting at all.
“It’s not babysitting if it’s your own child. This is a genuinely lovely opportunity your son and husband can look forward to, don’t mind her,” someone added to the thread.
And, some added that this cousin is definitely out of line.
“You extend a favour to her and her family and she repays you by critisizing yours. So long as you’re both happy with the arrangement it should be no one’s business. It gives you an hour break and he gets to spend time with his son. No problem here,” someone wrote.
