Well, as it turns out, many people do feel guilty, and that’s why they don’t end up using it. Now one expert is saying you’re doing it all wrong by not using it. Check it out.

However, this one self-advocacy expert, speaker, and author posted on TikTok telling people how important it is to take paid time off. Selena Rezvani said that by taking it regularly, you train your manager to see it as this consistent, natural occurrence, and not some freakishly odd, rare event.
It makes total sense, right?
She also stresses that there is no medal that you will receive for not using your PTO. True dat! So if you feel guilty for taking it, don’t. And when you make your request to the manager, just keep it simple.
There is no need to explain why you need this time off.
By explaining yourself, you set this precedent that you will basically share your whereabouts every time you use PTO, and that just isn’t necessary at all. Legally, your job can’t even ask you for that anyway.
And here’s the most important part.
Take your time off even if you get some resistance. As long as you give your work notice, they should be able to approve it. The truth is, there’s never a good time, and there’s always a great time for you to take care of yourself.

I was happy to see that this is now starting to dawn on people. You don’t have to give your work a reason why you want to use your own paid time off. It’s for you to use it any way you see fit, whether it’s for a sickness, self-care, vacation, or just because.

Taking your earned PTO is good for business. You will come back refreshed and rejuvenated, and in turn, that will make you a better, happier, and more satisfied employee. It’s basically a win-win situation for all parties.
This should be a no-brainer.
Companies should incorporate this into every business culture. The more you make your employees work, the more they will get burned out. And that will have a negative effect on your business, that’s for sure. But if you treat your staff with respect and give them the proper time off, they will work even harder for you.
