President Donald Trump left many people scratching their heads after a recent appearance in Pittsburgh where he told the crowd he’s building a border wall in the great state of Colorado.
Which is an interesting plan, considering that particular state is located right smack in the middle of the country and is actually nowhere near Mexico.
Trump appeared at the 9th annual Shale Insight Conference where he gave the audience an impromptu geography lesson.
“We’re building a wall on the border of New Mexico, and we’re building a wall in Colorado,” he said, according to CBS Denver . “We’re building a beautiful wall, a big one that really works that you can’t get over, you can’t get under and we’re building a wall in Texas.”
Just for good measure, he added, “We’re not building a wall in Kansas, but they get the benefit of the walls we just mentioned.”
For anyone unfamiliar with the map of the U.S., here’s a quick look at Trump’s planned wall, as provided by Vermot Senator Patrick Leahy.
As you can see, Trump apparently wants to kick little ol’ New Mexico out of the country and has decided to build the border walls around this state.
As per the senator’s interpretation, the “New” part of “New Mexico” has helpfully been crossed out to give you an idea of where Trump sees that particular state heading.
Believe it or not, Trump’s promise of a border wall in Colorado actually earned him a standing ovation from the crowd in Pittsburgh.

They appear to be the only ones on board with this new barrier, as other people have taken to social media to express their confusion at the president’s geographical misstep.
“Well this is awkward,” Colorado Governor Jared Polis tweeted . “Colorado doesn’t border Mexico. Good thing Colorado now offers free full day kindergarten so our kids can learn basic geography.”
In true Trump fashion, he’s also taken to Twitter to backpedal a little and has now claimed the whole thing was just one big joke.
According to this tweet, the whole thing was just a little bit of humor directed at the fine folks from Colorado and Kansas who were seated at the very back of the “packed auditorium.”
Personally, I’m of the opinion that this wasn’t a joke, but was just one of those brain fart moments that we all get every now and then. But rather than admit his mistake, Trump is going the “covfefe” route and trying to make as if this slip-up was just our kooky president being his usually, kooky self again.
However, that hasn’t stopped people from mocking him and his ambitious, albeit puzzling, wall plans.
“This is the way my uncle talked before he was convinced he was a bird and lived for two months in a pine tree,” one person tweeted.
Another added, “Everybody’s making jokes about Trump building a wall between Colorado and New Mexico, but actually he meant on the NORTHERN border with Wyoming. That’s how many chess moves he’s ahead of you people.”
Trump’s verbal blunder has also inspired a whole slew of Sharpie memes
Someone else posted this picture of all the country’s states outlined in sharpie and wrote, “F*** it, everyone gets walls.”
