Having a baby is a huge moment for any mother and father . The pregnancy and the birthing process is something that both mom and dad get to be a part of, and it’s monumental for the family overall .
But, when mothers have babies after already having a child, they want to make sure that their firstborn feels included and involved in all aspects of the process .

Most older siblings wait outside in the waiting room when their moms are in labor.
During labor and delivery, most older siblings stay outside and wait until the delivery is done before they go in to see their new baby sibling. But, one mom changed the norm and had her 12-year-old daughter in the room, too.
One mom had her 12-year-old daughter become part of that special day in a huge way.
Dede Carraway and her husband, Zach, told their 12-year-old daughter Jacee Dellapena that they were expecting a baby. She was pretty excited to have a new sibling in her life and in her family.
Jacee had already learned about labor and delivery in school.
In school and in health class, Jacee already learned so much about pregnancy, labor, and delivery. Her mom, Dede, decided to allow her in the room to be part of that very special moment.
However, once the OBGYN realized Jacee was so invested in the delivery, he allowed her to get involved.
The doctor told Jacee to “put on some scrubs” and come help him deliver her new baby brother. Jacee put on scrubs, gloves, and hopped in to help out with the help of their doctor, too.
Dede was shocked the doctor let her daughter be so involved.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was like, what? Uh, no. Never in a million years. But the doctor said, ‘I’m being serious. I’ll guide her hands and everything.’ So she got up in there and was suddenly in the middle of everything,” Dede told Shareably.
Jacee was so great and she made sure to catch her brother.
Jacee was very careful to make sure that her hands were steady and ready to catch her brother Zayden on his way out. The excitement on her face is super clear. I mean, this is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Dede said she had “no question” about letting her daughter in the room.
“She’s already had sex ed at school. I didn’t see no reason why she shouldn’t be there. I don’t hide anything from her. I think that the human body is natural and if she learned about it at school, there’s no reason why she shouldn’t learn about it at home, too. Seeing the emotions on her face, it was worth it,” the mom shared .
But of course, some people thought it was too much.
Many people on Facebook commented that this was too much for a child to see firsthand and can maybe even cause some trauma. Many said it was inappropriate to have her in the room, so close up.
However, a lot of people said that it was inspiring.
Overall, many people felt that this would allow brother and sister to grow up with an incredibly close bond. They applauded the parents and the sister for making this decision and wished nothing but health and happiness to the family.
