I’m not sure when exactly this stopped being the case, but I was endlessly fascinated with cars when I was a kid.
It wasn’t an uncommon sight to see me sitting in the mud outside the house as a toddler taking stock of the color of each “car car” I saw while my mom patiently sat beside me.
And while I can certainly appreciate how boring that must have been in retrospect, it meant a lot to me at the time and we’ve seen some lovely stories of parents going to similar lengths to make their own precious memories with their children .
In this case, one dad’s recent project that clearly means the world to his young son brought me back to those faint memories of my own childhood enthusiasm.
When the United Kingdom first went into lockdown, Richard Yeomans of Wiltshire, England knew just how he was going to keep himself occupied.

As The Daily Mail reported , he spent a great deal of that period working on his blue series 3 Land Rover.
But as time passed since then, Yeomans noticed that his four-year-old son Sydney had outgrown the “ready-made” toy car his family had previous bought for him.
So when the nation’s second lockdown loomed, Yeomans had the idea to build the child a miniature version of his actual car.

And thanks to his ingenious use of an old electric mobility scooter and some other pieces he managed to collect over time, the entire project ended up setting him back about £500 (or $693.)
And his eye for detail was sophisticated enough that by the time he was done, his creation was the spitting image of the real thing.

While the finished product didn’t come as a complete surprise to Sydney, that didn’t seem to affect his enjoyment of his new ride.
As Yeomans said, “He couldn’t resist having a peek a few times as it was being built, but he’s delighted with the finished product.”
The little Land Rover is now ready to be enjoyed and can reach a top speed of eight miles an hour, which Yeomans figures is “plenty” for a four-year-old.

After all, it’s not exactly like Sydney has to commute anywhere.
But while Sydney is loving his new car, Yeomans considered it just as much of a pleasure to build.
In his words, “It’s something I really enjoyed doing. Sydney was thrilled when he saw it.”
