There are hundreds, if not thousands, of different charity runs every year and they’re all for great causes, but far fewer of them involve running in your underwear. For obvious reasons.
But sometimes underwear is actually the perfect uniform to match the cause.
That’s the case with Cupid’s Charity, which is hosting “Cupid’s Undie Runs” all across the country in February.
The run itself is more for fun than fitness. They even describe it as a “mile(ish).” Mostly, it’s meant to get people out and partying in the street for a good cause.
Cupid’s Charity is helping to raise money for neurofibromatosis (NF) research.
NF is a genetic disorder that affects as many as 1 in 3,500 people in the US.
Tumors grow on the person’s nerves, often resulting in skin changes and deformed bones.
Many of those with the disorder are unable to hide the physical effects of their tumors.
And that’s why the Cupid’s Undie Run is meant to acknowledge.
Those affected by NF feel exposed and uncomfortable all the time, so by striping down, the runners can feel similar.
Of course, not everyone is willing to get undressed, even if it’s for a good cause.
That’s why the event is open to all sorts of costumes. Though they do ask that things be kept PG-13.
Tutus and onesies seem particularly popular. I’d totally be up for rocking a tutu.
Although, if you’re in a deep freeze like I am, warmth may be more important.
I’m thinking of long underwear beneath a cozy onesie, all topped off with a flannel bathrobe and fuzzy slippers.
That should keep me warm for the pre-run mingle. Once it’s reached dance party stage, I’d probably be sweating.
The race costs $40 to register and take part.
And it’s totally cool if that’s all you want to contribute, but fundraising can gain you all sorts of fun perks .
For example, raising $100 will get you a sweet commemorative t-shirt.
$250 will get you some official run undies and an open bar at the dance party.
And it only gets better from there, with awesome bags, jackets, and even VIP plaques to earn.
But of course, those are all just cherries on top of a whole lot of fun.
So would you be willing to run a mile(ish) in your underwear for a good cause?
Even if you’re not up for the run, you can donate to Cupid’s Charity or to a local runner. Every dollar counts in fight against NF!
