Okay, I’m going to need a childhood nostalgia squad check. Why? Because I do not remember ever eating a buttered saltine, but apparently they were the staple of many childhoods.
Now that they’re making a comeback as the go-to snack of choice, let’s figure out where this snack came from, shall we?
So, buttered saltines are not a new snack.
People have been eating them for years. However, they’ve been making a big snack comeback recently, and social media is abuzz with their hot takes on the salty, buttery snack.
Like, even Chrissy Teigen was read in on this little snack.
She has a recipe for chicken noodle soup in her cookbook, Cravings , that calls for buttered saltines as a side. Alright, so maybe I’m the last person to know about these.
People on Twitter pointed out they were mostly consumed when food was low, or if you were sick.
They’re gentle on the stomach and an easy way to get calories. I didn’t have them growing up, but I am becoming extremely interested in this concept.
Some people online couldn’t believe others were just discovering this snack.
For some, this was a childhood staple. For others… not so much, sorry! Now that we know about it, we’ll jump on the bandwagon, too.
This tweet totally made me understand this snack, by the way.
I was already mostly on board (who doesn’t love butter and carbs?), but this one sealed the deal. Scooping chili out with a buttered saltine? Sign me up.
