If you’re working a job, and your boss is making decisions you might not agree with, what do you do? You might want to just tell them, though that may not always be the easy answer. Keeping quiet doesn’t always work, either. At the very least, you shouldn’t go behind their back.
A Reddit user recently got into it with their boss, who is producing and filming a commercial, as well as an independent film. The user feels that the boss’s approach might be out of touch, but their suggestions were unwanted and unwarranted. The Redditor’s job might be on the line now, but they felt they did nothing wrong. Nonetheless, they asked the AITA crowd if they were in the wrong .
User NicoDeeMaus Shares Their Story.
The User Works As A Personal Assistant For The Producer.
Apparently, they are in the midst of filming a commercial that will be aired nationally. The boss is also preparing to film parts of his indie film in the same location, with permission. OP feels that, because their boss is older, he will not film in a way that appeals to the younger audience he is targeting.
OP has brought this up with their boss but got turned down. They later did things behind the boss’s back, such as adjusting the cameras and giving the actors direction. When the boss found out, he was furious. He demanded OP apologize or leave. OP may get fired over this, though they think they did nothing wrong. Their mother is even urging them to apologize to the boss for the sake of their job.
The Comment Section Agrees That OP Was Out Of Line.
OP is an assistant, not a director or producer. Their job isn’t to make suggestions and try to go ahead with them when they get rejected. The comment section felt that OP way overstepped on their job.
Users Were Amazed At OP’s Audacity.
The fact that OP repositioned cameras without express permission is pretty bad, career-wise. Commenters point out that this is something they could get fired over. It also shows that OP still has a lot to learn if they want to continue working in the film industry.
Some Also Felt That OP Might Be “Playing The Victim.”
OP stated that their boss made them uncomfortable by yelling at them. But commenters were inclined to believe that OP was just trying to gain sympathy.
