The picture that has recently resurfaced on social media has got people seriously confused about its contents. This isn’t the first time an image sparks a debate across different platforms regarding what people see; of course, we all remember the infamous blue and black / white and gold dress.
The image made its rounds across Reddit, X/Twitter, and TikTok, with several people trying to figure out what it was a photo of.

The photo is an optical illusion
An image that seems to be an optical illusion made the rounds on social media and people can’t decide whether it is a beach or a car.
You might be thinking ‘surely a beach and a car look totally different from each other’, but do they?
At first glance it look like a beach
When you first look at the image, one is almost certain it is a photo of a windy beach at night.
But when you stare at it for a little while longer, you start seeing the edge of a car door.
People were left puzzled
You start seeing the bottom of a car door after people tell you it’s not a beach. And the longer you stare at the enigma the longer you start losing trust in your ability to decipher images.
How can something look like a beach and a car door at the same time?
The photo resurfaced on social media
The optical illusion had previously been posted in a Reddit thread as well as X/Twitter, with people on different social media platforms trying to decipher the illusion.
One online user wrote, “I can see both and my mind is confused.”
Others don’t see a beach or a car
While different corners of the internet were collaborating to try and figure out whether the image was a beach or the bottom of a car door, one person mentioned that they see an entirely third thing.
They said, “Who else thought it was the moon?”
Another person thought it was snakes
People’s minds started going wild with visions of what the photo was capturing, with a second person asking, “Am I the only one that saw two snakes?”
Well, who knows if it’s a beach, a car, the moon, or two snakes?
A lot of people seem adamant that it’s a beach
One user said they immediately saw a beach, writing, “Holy s**t I could only see the beach and didn’t know what I was supposed to be looking at.”
Another also said, “There’s even a ship in the distance, what the f**k?”
A TikToker put people’s minds to rest
One TikToker, @hecticnick, who often makes videos about illusions and brain teasers revealed that while it doesn’t appear so at first, the image is the bottom of a rusty car.
Well, perhaps we didn’t look hard enough, but optical illusions are called illusions for a reason!
This isn’t the first time the internet faces an illusion
Optical illusions tend to appear on social media every once in a while, with images like the infamous blue and black / white and gold dress becoming a known mark of the internet.
Another strange optical illusion appeared in 2023 where New Zealand locals posted pictures of bizarre blue swirls in the sky.
The blue swirls were just exhaust fumes
As people tried to figure out what the Sci-Fi looking swirls were, it was reported on the BBC that they were just carbon dioxide fumes caused by a SpaceX rocket which left the sky illuminated.
