Former professional rugby player and TV personality, Beau Ryan, is facing major backlash after sharing a photo of himself innocently kissing his seven-year-old daughter, Remi, on the cheek.
Former NRL star and TV personality, Beau Ryan, has unfortunately, faced a ton of criticism for posting a photo kissing his seven-year-old daughter, Remi, on the cheek.
He posted the photo wishing her a happy birthday.
In the photo, his daughter appears to be shyly pulling away, which isn’t sitting quite right with some people.
Many seem to find the photo and caption to be inappropriate.
Beau isn’t the first celebrity dad to face backlash for kissing his daughter on Instagram, however.
The innocent display of affection has sparked controversy with plenty of others.
Take David Beckham, for instance.
David has shared a few photos of himself giving his eight-year-old daughter a peck on the lips over the last few years, and every time he does, his followers are up in arms over it.
Last year, after posting a photo kissing his daughter, Piers Morgan had some choice words for David on “Good Morning Britain”.
“Why would a father kiss his daughter on the lips? Don’t get it. Creepy. Weird. Creepy,” he said .
“No one does that. You post that to the world, but why?,” Piers continued.
“Weird, weird, weird.”
He then explained what he thinks is an appropriate sign of affection between parents and their children.
He explained that a “firm handshake” for sons and a “peck on the cheek” for daughters should be the standard.
David eventually commented on the backlash, revealing that kissing his children on the lips is a normal thing in his family’s household.
“I kiss all my kids on the lips,” he said. “Brooklyn, maybe not. Brooklyn’s 18, he might find that a little bit strange,” David said.
“I’m very affectionate with the kids. It’s how I was brought up and Victoria, and it’s how we are with our children .”
So, if David Beckham kissing his daughter stirred up controversy, then it’s no surprise that Beau Ryan’s photo did as well. Here’s the photo in question:
“Hbd to my everything. I’m so proud to be your Daddy. I love that you still love me kissing your face off,” he captioned the photo.
“And for those wondering I’m the only guy that’s allowed to kiss her.”
“If any of the boys at your school try, I want to remind you that I have lebo mates, a shovel and an alibi,” he joked.
Sadly, the adorable post was not received well by everybody.
On account of Remi’s body language, some fans criticized Beau for intentionally embarrassing his daughter in public.
Some people commented, explaining that just because you’re a parent, doesn’t give you the right to force affection on your child.
This person encouraged Beau to teach his daughter about boundaries instead.
Others simply thought that Beau should have been able to take a hint.
Remi clearly doesn’t look like she volunteered to take the photo.
But then again, at that age, who actually wants to take adorable photos with their parents?
Another person called Beau “posessive” and “gross” for saying that he is the only guy allowed to kiss his daughter.
I’m sorry, but I think it would be a lot weirder if he was actively inviting other guys to kiss his daughter.
Thankfully, there were an equal number of fans rushing to Beau’s defense, calling out anybody that has a problem with this typical father-daughter relationship dynamic.
She may have no liked taking this photo at seven years old, but I bet she’s going to love it when she’s all grown up!
